Dong Shuyun is the head of the Shuyun Laying Hen Professional Cooperative in Faku County. Her entrepreneurial journey has been tempered by hard work, thrift and diligent pioneering, and she is widely praised. She has successively won titles such as "Leader of the New Socialist Countryside Construction of Shenyang City", "Top Ten Women Experts in Getting Rich through Science and Technology", and "Model Worker of Liaoning Province", and was also elected as a member of the county CPPCC Committee by a unanimous vote.

Dong Shuyun, a 60-year-old female farmer-entrepreneur, was originally a housewife in Xi'ertaizi Village, Yemaotai Town, Faku County. In the 1980s, unable to bear the poverty brought by the wind and sand of her hometown, she came to the town to set up a stall. Later she went to the county seat to run a vehicle transport business, and at the same time raised nutria; she did this for 5 years, and in those 5 years she lost every bit of the money she had earned from business in the past. The failure of her business did not knock down this strong woman. She laughed it off: I'll just start all over again! While farming, she surveyed the market and finally settled on the project of raising laying hens. She was extremely well liked in the village, and she quickly raised 9,000 yuan and bought 500 chicks.

Dong Shuyun did not understand the technology, so she studied by leafing through books. That batch of chickens not only recovered the cost, but also earned 2,000 yuan. Under her careful raising, the chicken farm got onto the fast track. Up to now, from the original 500 chickens raised, it has grown to 200,000, with an annual egg output of 3,260 tons, annual sales of more than 15 million yuan, and net profit of more than 2 million yuan. She has truly become a famous chicken "commander" near and far.

Dong Shuyun did not forget her fellow villagers after getting rich. She took the lead in establishing the "Shuyun Laying Hen Professional Cooperative of Faku County" and the "Faku County Laying Hen Breeding Association", which have successively absorbed 102 member households as investors and shareholders. She often says that being rich alone does not count as being rich; only when everyone is rich does it count as being rich. She took the initiative to waive the share fees of 44 people with disabilities. Each member's investment for joining the cooperative is 5,000 yuan, and for this item alone the enterprise spent 220,000 yuan. She also pays wages to 35 members (22 of whom are people with disabilities). Yet she is extremely frugal with herself. Whether going to the county for meetings or traveling everywhere to sell products, she always carries home-made dry rations and plain boiled water in her bag. The villagers say that she keeps everyone in her heart, but not herself.

In early 2008, Dong Shuyun reviewed the lessons and experience of 10 years of chicken farming and felt that although her products had "green label" certification and sold well, they had no obvious product characteristics. She then worked hard to develop "selenium-enriched" eggs. At the Liaoning International Agricultural Products Expo, her "selenium-enriched" eggs became a hot-selling item. Wang Haiyun, section chief of the Trademark Section of the county Administration for Industry and Commerce, helped her successfully register the trademark "Xinfeng Brand Selenium-Enriched Eggs". She also handled green pollution-free product certification marks for the eggs and the feed factory. The selenium-enriched eggs won the gold award for high-quality agricultural products in the "Yurun Cup" at the Liaoning (Shenyang) International Agricultural Expo.

As the saying goes, many hands make the fire burn high. From the village to the town to the county seat, Dong Shuyun's reputation as the chicken "commander" and "golden phoenix" has reached the point where everyone knows it. "Xinfeng" brand selenium-enriched eggs, "Xinfeng" brand native eggs, "Xinfeng" brand pollution-free eggs, dressed chickens and other products are sold far and wide across the country. Merchants from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and other places come one after another attracted by her fame, and have established long-term cooperative relations with Dong Shuyun. Shenyang Xinglong Family and major supermarkets and farmers' markets have successively set up direct sales outlets. Selenium-enriched eggs and chicken are becoming health foods that consumers trust and cannot do without.
