Everyone may have seen Yangcheng Lake hairy crabs bearing anti-counterfeiting tags, but turbot bearing QR code tags, and turbot whose QR codes can still be scanned after being cooked and served on the table to obtain circulation and consumption information, may be rather rare.

Xu Guoqiu, director of the Ocean and Fisheries Bureau of Huludao City, Liaoning Province, said that Xingcheng City, Huludao, Liaoning Province, is China's main turbot producing area, and the "QR code identity card" launched for Xingcheng turbot is the first case in the country of live fish being tagged, with no precedent before.

Xu Guoqiu introduced that the current global total output of turbot is close to 80,000 tonnes, 90% of which comes from China, while Huludao City's turbot output accounts for 58% of the national total. In 2012, "Xingcheng turbot" was successfully registered as a national geographical indication certification trademark.

Scanning the metal QR code image inlaid on the gill cover of a "QR code turbot" immediately jumps to a query results page, which clearly marks the name of the third-party regulatory agency and the name of the inspector, as well as the fishing time, the licence plate number of the vehicle loaded for transport, the driver's name, the dealer terminal name, and so on, recording all the times one by one.

This system is an anti-counterfeiting tag and QR code traceability system independently developed over 3 years by Li Ying, a young man born in the 1980s. He said that the technological material used in this QR code tag can be steamed and boiled, is non-toxic and harmless, and is for single use, preventing passing off fakes as genuine and truly achieving "traceable source, verifiable destination, and accountable responsibility".
