"Post-80s" Su Guofei and the "entrepreneurial dream" on 100,000 mu of land

He is a "post-80s" with millions in assets, yet as a top student he plunged headlong into rural areas after graduation and never "came out." He has a heart that is tied to his fellow farmers, and he wants to develop 100,000 mu of land to build a broad road to prosperity.

In July 2015, the press conference for the "Happy Chinese Dream - Virtue Under Heaven" campaign was held at the press conference hall of the State Council Information Office. Su Guofei, as the spokesperson for the series of events, spoke together with Yu Changlin, a veteran village party secretary also from Yulin, Shaanxi.

Entrepreneurship is hard, but rise to the challenge - hard yet not hard

On October 23, in Yulin, Shaanxi, the birch trees were tinged with golden yellow, and the earth was vigorous with tenacious strength. The rich historical heritage of this "important frontier town of the nine border regions" is still faintly visible today.

Following the "golden avenue," the car turned and drove into the vast depths of the desert: the "harvester" moved in straight lines back and forth across the field, dozens of people crouched in the distance, bent over, then stood up, repeating the same motions, and one empty bag after another was filled to the brim. Not far away, the intelligent irrigation system resembled rows of silver dragons, displaying a rather imposing spirit in the sunlight.

"The workers are harvesting potatoes. The vehicles beside them load the potatoes and take them directly to contracted supermarkets in Beijing," Su Guofei said as he busied himself in the field, casually digging out a few potatoes to show everyone: large, red-skinned, and solid. If you didn't look carefully, you would think they were sweet potatoes.

One potato weighed about half a jin, which made Su Guofei and the other workers laugh. The wrinkles on their foreheads smoothed out.

About 1.8 m tall, with a plump face and a stout waist, walking with a gust of energy - this is the rough outline of "post-80s" Su Guofei.

But it is precisely with this rough outline that after graduating from university he turned right back around and plunged into this frontier desert, never to leave!

In 2007, after graduation, Su Guofei chose to return home, farming the land, working in coal mines, contracting hotels... Years of hardship and dedication not only enriched Su Guofei's life but also brought him some achievements. Against the policy backdrop of the state's advocacy of "mass entrepreneurship and innovation," Su Guofei and his classmates founded Yulin Rongze Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd. in 2014. They leased 5,500 mu of land on the edge of the Mu Us Desert in Yulin to develop high-tech modern agriculture. Of this, 3,000 mu were planted with potatoes, 1,000 mu with corn, and 1,500 mu with forage grass.

"The crops are growing beautifully," Su Guofei told reporters.

Government: solve difficulties, communicate at any time

It is understood that the transportation facilities, water, electricity and other basic conditions around the Mu Us Desert are relatively inadequate. In the place where Rongze Company is located, aside from the need to use energy-saving equipment for irrigation to reduce costs and carry out precision operations, the company's location occasionally experiences power outages and water cutoffs. Unstable voltage even causes pumps to burn out during irrigation from time to time. And in this information age, because it is far from the urban area, the company's internet construction has also lagged behind.

A few days ago, the Yulin Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government, together with local functional departments such as the Land Bureau, the Agriculture Bureau, and the Government Office, held lively discussions regarding the problems encountered during entrepreneurship by Su Guofei and a group of entrepreneurs. The discussions both affirmed their bravery, their willingness to endure hardship, and their spirit of contributing to their hometown, and also promptly put forward solutions and opinions for the problems they encountered.

A relevant official from Yuxiang District, Yulin City, said that from the moment university graduates returned home for employment, Yuxiang District implemented database work and entered the relevant information. At the same time, it distributed brochures on preferential policies related to university student entrepreneurship. In September, more than 20 university students had already been trained. During the university students' entrepreneurial process, the government promptly assigned dedicated personnel to provide one-on-one assistance to help them complete project application, implementation and other work.

The Yuxiang District Animal Husbandry Bureau, through policy support, built 2 biogas digesters for Rongze Agriculture, solving part of the source problem for organic fertilizer. The Water Affairs Bureau and the Animal Husbandry Bureau investigated the company and the base, put forward specific guidance on issues such as the oversized sprinkler irrigation area at the base, and provided supporting funds for the water conservancy equipment for sprinkler irrigation. In addition, the government also strictly implemented the various subsidy policies of the central, provincial, municipal and district levels. Livestock subsidies, agricultural machinery subsidies, storage subsidies and training subsidies were all implemented one by one, and active assistance was provided in negotiating and handling them. As for difficulties encountered in land leasing and other processes, relevant departments also actively stepped forward to solve them, assisting the normal operation and development of the enterprise.

University students are a vital force in implementing the innovation-driven development strategy and advancing mass entrepreneurship and innovation. They must not only study conscientiously and solidly and master more knowledge, but also devote themselves to innovation and entrepreneurship and improve practical abilities. This was Premier Li Keqiang's important instruction on the first China "Internet Plus" University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition.

It is understood that in Rongze Company's plans, the scale of the company's agricultural production base will reach 100,000 mu. On the map on the wall of Rongze Company's meeting room, the company's lofty ambition can be seen. The base will implement land transfer and the model of "cooperative + base + farmers." After the company's operations become normal, it can drive the development of modern agriculture in Yulin and provide the public with a safe and reassuring "vegetable basket."

Su Guofei called on more university students to join the ranks of entrepreneurs, using knowledge, innovative awareness and ability to realize their entrepreneurial dreams and jointly fulfill the happy Chinese Dream.
