One milliliter of agarwood essential oil sells for several thousand yuan, and villagers in Hainan have found a path to prosperity by planting it

When it comes to agarwood, everyone must be familiar with it. Agarwood is both a precious medicinal material and can be used as incense material or for handicrafts. Our Hainan is an important production area for agarwood. And in Team 30 of Dongtai Farm in Qionghai, planting agarwood has also become a path to prosperity for the villagers.

Wu Junlin is an employee of Team 30 of Dongtai Farm in Qionghai. He said that when he was a child, he heard old people say that agarwood was a treasure. About thirty years ago, he planted 5,000 agarwood trees, and then planted more every year. Now, he has close to 20,000 agarwood trees.

Wu Junlin casually chopped off a piece of bark and let everyone smell it, and a strong fragrance could be smelled. Wu Junlin told us that this agarwood tree is already ten years old and began yielding agarwood two years ago. Originally, agarwood trees had to go through lightning strikes and insect bites, with resin secreted from the wounds, in order to form agarwood. The efficiency of extracting agarwood was low, and it was hard to make a profit. Unable to see any prospects in planting, Wu Junlin's wife was once very opposed to him planting agarwood trees.

He persisted in planting trees, not knowing when there would be any returns, and if he did not extract agarwood and only sold the agarwood trees, each one was only a few hundred yuan, which Wu Junlin was unwilling to accept. In 2012, things took a turn. Wu Junlin began cooperating with Yingchaosheng International Group from Guangdong. The company provided the medicinal solution and technology for extracting agarwood, and the extracted agarwood could be sold to the company. Through these years of cooperation, Wu Junlin's family income has truly increased.

Wu Junlin introduced that when an agarwood tree grows to a root diameter of about 17 cm, it can begin to form agarwood. At present, agarwood extracted from trees that have been forming agarwood for about one year can sell wholesale for five or six yuan per gram. The longer the agarwood formation time, the higher the value of the agarwood. An agarwood tree that has been forming agarwood for about 3 years can have an output value of 10,000 yuan. Now, income has increased and life has become stable. Other employees on the farm have also begun to join the ranks of planting agarwood.

Now, Yingchaosheng International Group has set up an artificial agarwood formation base and a factory for distilling essential oil in Team 30 of Dongtai Farm in Qionghai City. The current market price of agarwood essential oil can reach 2,000 to 3,000 yuan per milliliter. The company will develop agarwood planting, build an agarwood tourism base, and lead nearby farmers to prosper together.
