Green Sichuan Pepper Drives a Wealth-Building Wave in Dazhu, Sichuan
From a patch of weeds a few years ago to branches laden today with nine-leaf green Sichuan pepper, the more than 100 mu of contracted land of Zhang Juhong in Group 2, Qinghe Village, Baiba Township, Guanyin Town, Dazhu County, has delivered remarkable returns. This is the result of guidance from the county agriculture and forestry bureau and his joint efforts to build a nine-leaf green Sichuan pepper demonstration base.
Zhang Juhong is one of the many entrepreneurs currently investing in planting nine-leaf green Sichuan pepper. He encountered many setbacks in the process of growing Sichuan pepper, but he faced the difficulties head-on and promptly sought help from the local forestry department. The county agriculture and forestry bureau and the Guanyin forestry station gave strong support in policy and technology, conducted on-site surveys, repeated trials, and explored advanced experience together with Zhang Juhong.
The specific approach is as follows. First, explore advanced experience and fully draw on the experience of Jiangjin and other places: dig holes at designated points, take care to protect the root system, carry out rational shaping and pruning, conduct intertillage and weeding, and pay attention to pest and disease control. Second, dig deep into sales channels and closely follow merchants' real-time needs. This year, strictly according to manufacturers' requirements, branches and Sichuan pepper below the pepper leaves are taken, packaged into boxes with guaranteed quality and quantity, and transported to merchants. Third, expand the planting scale and extend the Sichuan pepper demonstration base. This year, Zhang Juhong newly rented more than 100 mu of land in Qinghe Village to expand production scale and focus on building a nine-leaf green Sichuan pepper demonstration base.
At present, driven by the radiating influence of this green Sichuan pepper demonstration base, Qinghe Village has gradually formed a wave of Sichuan pepper planting, with villagers spontaneously planting more than 200 mu of Sichuan pepper and increasing income by more than 100 yuan per household on average.
