He became rich by raising pigs, but he never forgot his fellow villagers

"I started raising pigs early and on a large scale, and the villagers from the surrounding villages all followed me into the cooperative!" On November 11, Ren Lekun, head of the Yongkang Pig Breeding Cooperative in Tuyi Village, Guidui Township, Huaibin County, told this reporter.

Ren Lekun cheerfully did the math for this reporter: This year the pig market is especially good! The selling price of live pigs has remained basically stable at 8.8 yuan/jin, while the prices of feed such as bran, soybean meal and corn have dropped quite a lot. Corn alone fell from 1.4 yuan/jin last year to 0.9 yuan/jin this year. For our cooperative, this is good news. As for the live pigs I personally raise, I currently have more than 700 head on hand, with annual marketings of more than 2,000 head. Calculating a net profit of 1,000 yuan per pig, that adds up to an income of 2 million yuan a year.

Being rich yourself does not count as being rich; only when everyone is rich is it truly being rich. Starting from his first tentative attempt at raising pigs in 2004, Ren Lekun wanted to test the waters first: if pig raising was profitable, he would encourage the villagers to join in together. In 2008, Ren Lekun, who had already made a name for himself in pig breeding, initiated the establishment of the Yongkang Pig Breeding Cooperative, driving relatives and friends and nearby villagers to form an industrial chain. At present, more than ten households in the cooperative raise more than 400 pigs each. The cooperative raises more than 10,000 pigs in total, with annual net income of more than 10 million yuan.

In the future, the cooperative will further base itself on large-scale and standardized breeding, rely on scientific and technological progress, build a well-known brand, broaden sales channels, connect with meatpacking plants, and increase the added value of pig raising, so that the cooperative truly becomes a bridge for breeding households to develop through cooperation and grow rich together.
