"Land maker" Su Wei helps black wheat fulfill farmers' dream of increasing income

"I planted 4 mu of black wheat this year, with an average yield of 450 kg per mu. After selling it at 4 yuan per kg, I earned more than 3,000 yuan more than growing ordinary wheat." On November 4, Li Chengfei, a villager from Yaolizhuang in Fujing Town, Shenqiu County, counted the grain money from his black wheat, a smile spreading across his face.

Like Li Chengfei, in Shenqiu County, many other farmers have also planted black wheat. "According to this year's market, growing black wheat increases income by about 700 yuan per mu compared with ordinary wheat. We owe this to Old Su!" When talking about how growing black wheat helped everyone increase income, the villagers all remember "land maker" Old Su.

The Old Su everyone refers to is Su Wei, head of the Shenqiu Julong Black Wheat Crop Professional Cooperative. He worked in the flour industry in his early years and has deep feelings for wheat. During an out-of-town inspection, he unexpectedly found that in supermarkets, large hotels and fast-food restaurants in some cities, a black steamed bun sold for 2 yuan, and a bowl of black noodles sold for 10 yuan, and the market outlook was good, often with supply falling short of demand.

This situation let Su Wei see a business opportunity. After market research, he found that black wheat planting techniques are not very different from ordinary wheat, and almost all land that can grow ordinary wheat can cultivate black wheat.

"The yield of black wheat is generally around 400 kg per mu. With good management, the yield per mu can reach more than 500 kg. Sold as improved seed, the income per mu can reach 4,000-5,000 yuan, and the value generated by deep processing is even higher." Su Wei said. Seeing such a good market prospect for black wheat, in March 2012, Su Wei established the Julong Crop Professional Cooperative, determined to make this project bigger and stronger with his fellow villagers, increase the output value of the land, and fulfill farmers' dream of increasing income.

To eliminate the villagers' worries, Su Wei signed a "Black Wheat Buyback Agreement" with farmers interested in planting black wheat. To ensure the quality of black wheat and help farmers grow high-quality, high-yield black wheat, the cooperative provides one-stop "full entrusted service" from seed selection to seed supply, field management, harvesting and sales.

While encouraging villagers to join the cooperative, Su Wei also contracted 2,000 mu of land through land transfer and took the lead in planting black wheat. "Villagers who transfer their land to me can get a rent of 1,000 yuan per mu. At the same time, they can also work in the fields and earn another wage." Su Wei said.

Su Wei repeatedly publicized and explained, unlocking the villagers' "heart locks." They generally agreed that growing black wheat has broad "money" prospects. Not only did villagers in the village actively join the cooperative and voluntarily grow black wheat, but farmers from other townships also actively joined in. It is understood that under Su Wei's guidance, in 2015 the black wheat planting area in Shenqiu County reached 11,000 mu, with total output reaching 4.6 million kg, directly increasing farmers' income by more than 7 million yuan.
