Skillful cultivation of edible fungi leads to the road to wealth

Since late September, every morning at four or five o'clock, farmer Wang Zhengdong of Hongda Village, Yongfeng Town, Tianchang City, and his wife Liu Cuihua have been busy in their three edible fungus greenhouses covering 1.2 mu. In about an hour and a half, baskets of fresh enoki mushrooms and oyster mushrooms are carried out of the greenhouses. These fresh mushrooms are transported by minivan to major vegetable markets in Tianchang for sale. "Fresh enoki mushrooms and oyster mushrooms, if you want to sell them at a good price, you must seize the time and sell them as soon as they are picked," Wang Zhengdong told this writer.

Wang Zhengdong, 49 years old this year, once did decoration business and was a small boss, accumulating certain start-up funds. Leveraging the locational advantage of his home being in the urban-rural fringe of Tianchang, he made great efforts in agricultural structural adjustment and set his sights on edible fungus cultivation. In the spring of this year, he went twice to the edible fungus cultivation base in Jiangdu, Jiangsu to investigate and learn from experience. After returning, he invested more than 30,000 yuan to build steel-framed fixed plastic greenhouses to develop edible fungus cultivation, and also asked the power supply station to set up a dedicated power line for the base. He purchased more than 8,000 bags of high-quality enoki mushroom, oyster mushroom and other fungus spawn from the edible fungus cultivation base in Jiangdu, Jiangsu, and hired professional edible fungus technicians to provide on-site guidance.

"Detail management is very important in greenhouse cultivation of edible fungi. My wife and I work from dawn to dusk in the greenhouses, not daring to be careless at all. Although it is very hard, the benefits are quite good," Wang Zhengdong said. Now he picks 150 jin of fresh enoki mushrooms and oyster mushrooms every day and transports them to major vegetable markets in Tianchang for sale. Enoki mushrooms and oyster mushrooms sell for an average of 3 yuan per jin, and he expects the price to be a bit higher when the Spring Festival peak season arrives. According to his rough estimate: he can sell more than 40,000 jin of enoki mushrooms and oyster mushrooms for the whole year, with a gross profit of 120,000 yuan. After deducting various costs, the net income is more than 80,000 yuan.
