Scientific chicken farming puts farmer Zhang Yuezhen of Daying Village, Ying County, on the road to prosperity
In Daying Village, Ying County, there is a farmer named Zhang Yuezhen. Over many years, he has devoted himself to studying chicken farming techniques, continuously developing and expanding his chicken farming business, taking the road to prosperity through scientific chicken farming, and driving villagers to develop breeding as well, becoming a local model of achieving prosperity through breeding.
Zhang Yuezhen is the head of the Boda Chicken Farming Cooperative. In 2009, he responded to the call of the Zangzhai Township Government, vigorously developed the breeding industry, and set up a chicken farm. Today, the cooperative has a total of 50,000 chickens, of which 40,000 are laying hens and 10,000 are pre-stocked chicks, producing over 4,000 jin of eggs per day.
When it comes to chicken farming, Zhang Yuezhen talks about it with great familiarity: "Chicken farming is not as simple as people imagine. From the first day of brooding, the temperature inside the chicken house must be kept between 35°C and 37°C, the humidity at 60%, and the light for 24 hours; the feed is also formulated according to the different stages of the chickens' growth; there are as many as 16 procedures for disease prevention alone, and only then can the quality of the chickens be guaranteed." Since Zhang Yuezhen began raising chickens, he and his technicians have spent most of each day in the 10 chicken houses at the farm, giving vaccinations, feeding, and checking the condition of the chicks at each stage... He personally handles every detail. After several years of development, he has not only mastered the relevant chicken farming techniques, but his wallet has also grown fatter.
Zhang Yuezhen did a calculation for the reporter: "If the selling price of eggs is calculated at 3.5 yuan per jin, the gross income is 14,000 yuan. Of that, feed costs 10,000 yuan, and labor, water and electricity costs are more than 1,000 yuan, so the daily net profit is about 3,000 yuan, and conservatively, he can earn 700,000 to 800,000 yuan a year." According to Zhang Yuezhen, the cooperative now drives four or five cooperative members, with an average annual income of 40,000 to 50,000 yuan per household, far higher than the income from farming.
Seeing that Zhang Yuezhen has taken the road to prosperity through scientific chicken farming, many fellow villagers have also built chicken houses. Whenever Zhang Yuezhen has time, he goes to visit the people around him who have just started out, offering suggestions and help. "My own cooperative is gradually getting on track, and I want to help my fellow villagers get rich as soon as possible, so that everyone can strive for a moderately prosperous life together."
