Guizhou farmer Zhang Xiangyin selects a prosperity package and draws up a five-year plan

On November 14, Zhang Xiangyin was herding cattle.
Zhang Xiangyin, 58, a farmer in Yaguan Village, Changchunbao Town, Qixingguan District, Bijie City, is a local poor household. His few mu of mountain land yield only 1200 jin of corn and 800 jin of potatoes a year. His average annual net income was only just over 1000 yuan, unable to make ends meet, and he worried about making a living all year round. In September 2015, the arrival of two "Simmental" crossbred cows brought a turning point in his life.
This year, after extensive research into people's needs, Qixingguan District launched a targeted poverty alleviation package, and Zhang Xiangyin chose to raise breeding cows. The rural commercial bank lent 24000 yuan, the government paid the interest, and if anything happened to the cattle the government would cover the loss. Zhang Xiangyin was able to buy two "Simmental" crossbred cows without any worry, and he happily did the math: each cow can produce 2 calves in 3 years, and at 10000 yuan per calf, that could bring in 40000 yuan.
Today Zhang Xiangyin already has his own "13th Five-Year Plan" in mind: one year to learn breeding techniques, two years to repay the principal, three years to escape poverty, after four years to send his grandson to primary school, and after five years to add another storey to the single-storey house his son built with borrowed money. The year 2020, when a moderately prosperous society is fully built, will also be the new starting point for Zhang Xiangyin to completely escape poverty and become prosperous on the broad road ahead.
