Why can a single beef cattle in Langzhong, Sichuan earn 5300 yuan?
Recently, a buyer from Kunming came to Wei Xu's beef cattle farm in Group 11, Tufangshan Village, Jincheng Township, Langzhong City, and selected 29 beef cattle, all weighing over 800 kg on average, paying Wei Xu 480,000 yuan in cash on the spot. Wei Xu did the math: "After deducting costs, the 29 beef cattle sold brought a net profit of 153,700 yuan, an average net profit of 5300 yuan per head."
Xian Chengwei, director of the Langzhong City Animal Husbandry Bureau, said: "The beef cattle sold by other beef cattle farms in Langzhong City generally bring a profit of about 1000 yuan per head. The beef cattle raised by Wei Xu bring a profit more than 5 times higher per head. It really is a miracle."
Wei Xu said the secret to his high beef cattle profits lies in his adoption of the "plant grass to raise cattle" model, which achieves a circular economy, and after extending the industry chain he also gained more added value.
Wei Xu, 46 this year, returned to his hometown in early last year and invested more than 500,000 yuan to build a cattle farm, purchasing the first batch of 36 Simmental and Charolais calves to raise. To get his business off the ground smoothly, Wei Xu made several trips to other provinces to study and inspect, and became proficient in scientific cattle raising and feed processing techniques.
After returning from his studies, he transferred 180 mu of abandoned land and planted forage grasses such as yellow bamboo grass, sweet elephant grass, Sudan grass and Guimu No. 1, as well as Mexican corn and forage corn; he also collected corn stalks in and around the township, mechanically crushed them, added forage grass bacteria and 1% salt water for fermentation, and sealed them in plastic bags for silage, each bag holding about 90 kg, using this as cattle feed. Wei Xu feeds each cow forage and feed 2 times a day, 35 kg each time per cow; each bull gains more than 50 kg per month on average, and each cow gains more than 30 kg per month on average.
Seeing that Wei Xu's self-created feed had a good fattening effect on beef cattle, other beef cattle farms also signed a sales contract with him for 10,000 bags of feed, and the annual feed sales can generate an output value of more than 500,000 yuan.
To handle the fermented cattle manure, Wei Xu also planted organic vegetables, and the earthworms in them are used to feed poultry and fish, achieving circular ecological farming on the farm.
