Tian Jiming is the village Party secretary of Tianjiaba Village, Shangde Town, Wen County, Longnan City, Gansu Province, and also an agricultural science and technology expert in the eyes of the villagers. When a villager's orange tree gets sick, they come to him; when they want to graft a new variety, they come to him; when it is time to prune the trees, they still come to him. He can solve all these problems. Walking into Tian Jiming's orange orchard, on one tree there are two kinds of fruit, one yellow and one green. “On this tree, the lower layer is honey mandarin, which is ripe now, and the upper layer is ponkan. When the honey mandarins are sold out, the ponkan will just be ripe too. This is called a double harvest.” In his own orange orchard, Tian Jiming told reporters that this “double harvest” is a technique he learned at his own expense at the China Citrus Research Institute. After grafting, some branches can bear fruit the very next year. In 1990, Tian Jiming contracted the barren hillside named “Yehuling” behind the village, a place piled with rubble. Adding soil, building roads, leveling the slope…… Tian Jiming actually carved out a patch of green on the barren slope, planted orange trees, and became a widely known new standout in starting a business and getting rich. The villagers saw his down-to-earth hard work and endurance, and envied him in their hearts. In 2002, Tian Jiming was elected by the masses as village director, and in 2006, he was elected village Party secretary.

Having become the leader of the village's prosperity, Tian Jiming took it as his primary responsibility to drive the villagers to get rich. After learning new techniques and successfully testing them in his own orchard, he not only passed the techniques on to the villagers, but also provided grafting branches and technical guidance to the villagers free of charge, held technical training classes for the villagers, and led everyone to get rich together.

Tian Jiming organized and established the “Tianrun Fruit and Vegetable Cooperative”, promoted the model of “Party branch + association + farming households”, funded market surveys in Yinchuan, Xining, Lanzhou and other places himself, and introduced fine varieties such as red-fleshed pomelo, Japanese Ota ponkan Xinji No. 3, and Newhall navel orange, and planted them successfully. On this basis, he also organized and established “Tianrun Fruit and Vegetable Co., Ltd.”, providing pre-production, mid-production and post-production services, signing contracts with farming households, purchasing agricultural products at protective prices, and protecting the interests of fruit growers to the greatest extent.

Under Tian Jiming's leadership, more than 80 households in Tianjiaba Village are now growing citrus and vegetables. The village's fruit and vegetable planting area has reached 245 mu, with income reaching 1.95 million yuan, and per capita net income of more than 6,000 yuan. Fruit and vegetable income accounts for two-thirds of the local people's income structure, truly becoming the pillar industry for increasing the people's income.
