Liu Nengwei Leads Fishermen to Prosperity as the "Leading Goose"
Xingdouhu Fishery is located in the hinterland of Huangjiakou Town, with abundant water resources, and is a veritable "land of fish and rice." In recent years, under the leadership of Party branch secretary Liu Nengwei, Xingdouhu Fishery has made full use of its unique lake area advantages, continuously improved infrastructure, enhanced aquaculture conditions, and adjusted the structure of aquatic products. The fishery's breeding area has continued to expand, the varieties bred have become increasingly diverse, and the fishermen's incomes have continued to grow.
When the reporter arrived at Xingdouhu Fishery, it happened to be cold, rainy weather. Despite the low temperature and rain, the dock at Xingdouhu Fishery was still bustling with activity. Fishermen were busy loading fish from boats into vehicles to be transported out for sale. Watching box after box of fish being loaded onto the trucks, the fishermen's faces were filled with happy smiles. Liu Nengwei, who was collecting fish together with the fishermen, told the reporter that this fish dock may look unremarkable, but it is actually the largest fish dock in the entire city. Previously this dock was very small, and it was extremely inconvenient for fishermen to move their fish in and out. The first thing he did after taking office was raise funds to renovate and expand this fish dock. Now this fish dock is not only the aquatic product transfer station for Xingdouhu Fishery, but fish from several nearby fisheries are also brought here for transfer, greatly reducing the fishermen's transportation costs.
Xingdouhu Fishery previously had relatively poor infrastructure, and the fishermen raised fish entirely at the mercy of the weather. After Liu Nengwei took office, he began working to strengthen the fishery's infrastructure. Since the beginning of this year, Liu Nengwei has raised funds from multiple sources, cut expenses, and concentrated on purchasing nearly 10,000 yuan worth of pesticides, urging farmers to spray herbicides in the ditches covering nearly 1,000 mu to remove weeds that were affecting production. He actively sought support from the power department, raised more than 100,000 yuan to erect nearly 1 km of high-voltage lines and nearly 2 km of low-voltage lines, and added a 200 kVA transformer station, completely solving the problem of insufficient electricity for nearly 1,000 mu of fish ponds in the large lake. This spring, nearly 100,000 yuan was invested to reinforce and widen a dangerous bridge beside the fishery headquarters. The village's infrastructure has taken on a completely new look, and the fishermen's enthusiasm for raising fish is at an unprecedented high. This year, Xingdouhu's planting and breeding area reached 6,300 mu, with a total aquatic product volume of nearly 6,000 tons. It has become one of the fisheries with the largest aquatic product output in our city.
In earlier years, Xingdouhu Fishery mainly raised the "four major Chinese carps," fulfilling the dream of striking gold in the water. In recent years, the market for the four major Chinese carps has remained sluggish. Although the fishery's aquatic product output has been increasing year by year, income has never seen significant improvement. In response to this situation, Liu Nengwei made numerous visits to fishermen's homes to discuss the fishery's development direction together with the fishermen. After learning from other places' successful experiences in breeding river crabs, soft-shelled turtles, and Pacific white shrimp, Liu Nengwei resolved to raise the fishermen's income level by changing the traditional "four major Chinese carps" breeding model. He guided the fishermen to change their traditional production concepts, seek profits from specialty aquatic products, vigorously promote healthy aquaculture, achieve breakthrough development in ecological fisheries, and make specialty aquatic products bigger and stronger. He developed a batch of distinctive Xingdouhu premium aquatic products such as swamp eel, mandarin fish, crayfish, crab, and the "four major Chinese carps," as well as aquatic vegetables such as lotus root shoots and lotus seeds, promoting the gradual warming of specialty breeding and enabling the fishery's fishery production to continue showing a good development momentum.
As for the fishery's future, Liu Nengwei is full of confidence. He said, based on the sluggish fish market conditions, while adjusting the industrial structure, we aim to develop aquatic vegetables and a shrimp-crab-mandarin fish symbiotic model on 80 percent of the area by next year, so that the people can increase their income and benefit. He believes that as long as the villagers work hard together with him, the fishery's future will become better and better.
Where there is effort, there is reward. Under the leadership of Liu Nengbang, Xingdouhu Fishery has become a well-known major aquatic village and has been recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture as a national-level demonstration site for healthy aquaculture.
