After the autumn harvest, large areas of rice paddies lie idle and enter a period of rest and recovery. Recently, in rural rice paddies, the author observed many farmers starting to herd large numbers of ducks in the paddies after the autumn harvest, keeping the idle fields productive. The scattered rice grains, weeds, snails and stem borers in the paddies are first-class feed for the ducks, which not only saves on duck-raising costs but also indirectly helps control pests and weeds, greatly reducing the harm to the following year's rice production.
