Xiao Jiaxiu, "Jinggang Honey Pomelo Wealth-Building Star": Pomelo Fragrance Paves the Road to Prosperity

In Yintang Village, Lutian Town, Wan'an County, there is an ordinary farmer's daughter who, through her own perseverance and hard work, used barren hillside land to develop Jinggang honey pomelo cultivation, not only greening the mountain village but also cultivating a "road to prosperity." She is Xiao Jiaxiu, who was named a city-level "Jinggang Honey Pomelo Wealth-Building Star" this year.

During the season when honey pomelos are fragrant, this writer visited Xiao Jiaxiu's fruit cultivation base, seeing emerald green everywhere and fruit fragrance everywhere. Xiao Jiaxiu was picking the bountiful honey pomelos at the base.

"My investment in growing Jinggang honey pomelos is now 500,000-600,000 yuan, with more than 30 mu already bearing fruit, bringing in over 100,000 yuan a year." Xiao Jiaxiu, now around 40 years old, explained that when she married into Yintang Village, Lutian Town, Wan'an County in 1987, she had her eye on the village's barren hillside land, hoping to use this land to develop fruit cultivation and embark on the road to prosperity.

In the year she married, Xiao Jiaxiu and her husband contracted several plots of barren hillside land in the village and began growing navel oranges and honey tangerines. Later, seeing the promising market prospects for Jinggang honey pomelos, she began developing them. From then on, Xiao Jiaxiu studied Jinggang honey pomelo cultivation and management techniques while carefully managing her orchard, and the honey pomelo business advanced step by step each year. Today, her fruit cultivation base has grown from the initial few mu to more than 250 mu currently, with more than 30 mu of honey pomelos already bearing fruit; once in full production, the base's output value can exceed 1 million yuan, and a cultivation base integrating aquaculture and honey pomelo cultivation has taken initial shape. In 2013, the honey pomelos she grew also won the city-wide Shatian pomelo "Pomelo King" title. Speaking of future development, Xiao Jiaxiu said: "Next, I plan to develop my Jinggang honey pomelo base into a farm-stay base, making the honey pomelo business bigger and stronger."

"Pomelo fragrance" paves the road to prosperity. Inspired by Xiao Jiaxiu's demonstration and leadership, the villagers of Yintang have shown great enthusiasm for growing pomelos. Of the 68 farming households in her village group, 55 grow honey pomelos on spare land in front of and behind their houses and beside the village and roads, and the whole village now has nearly 10,000 Jinggang honey pomelo trees. The goal of "every household having pomelo trees, every household having pomelo fruit" has essentially been achieved. A beautiful countryside where "pomelo fruit fragrance wafts inside the houses, pomelo trees surround the houses outside, pomelo trees fill the village within, and pomelo trees cover the mountains beyond" is unfolding before people's eyes.
