Winter Mushroom Harvest Brings Joy as Villagers in Qujiang Township, Renshou County Start Their Own Businesses

On January 5, villager Zhong Xiaohong of Liuhe Village, Qujiang Township, Renshou County, was inspecting the growth of her mushrooms. Her family's 100,000 bags of winter mushrooms had once again yielded a bumper harvest.
In 2013, Zhong Xiaohong and her husband built a edible fungus greenhouse on their own land, using locally discarded sawdust, rice straw, corn cobs and other materials as raw materials to vigorously develop edible fungus production. Through a year of accumulated experience, her family now has 3 edible fungus greenhouses, expanding from the original single production of mushrooms to multiple fungus varieties such as shiitake mushrooms, shaggy mane mushrooms (Coprinus comatus), and enoki mushrooms (Flammulina velutipes). They are sold to major supermarkets and vegetable markets at a price of about 4-6 yuan per kilogram.
"Developing edible fungi at home allows me to take care of my children and earn money at the same time, much better than going out to work," Zhong Xiaohong said, full of confidence in her choice and her life.
