Returning home to grow strawberries, "green" is the way to prosperity

Wei Kui is a typical member of the post-1970s generation. He left home young, drove trucks, did odd jobs, ran businesses... After more than 20 years of hustling away from home, he had accumulated enough material wealth. In recent years, Wei Kui caught the huge business opportunity of modern agriculture. Called by the policy of returning home to start businesses and give back to his hometown, he returned to his native Caochi Town in Jianyang City and started modern strawberry cultivation.

In early December 2015, when the reporter first met him at the Rui Zhi Yuan agricultural base in Caochi Town, the more than 300 mu of greenhouse strawberry base he had invested in was truly spectacular.

"After three years of returning home to farm, I have invested over ten million yuan, from soil improvement to the introduction of fine varieties to planting practice. Every year I accumulate experience, every year I innovate and improve, and now the harvest season has finally arrived." Wei Kui told the reporter that when he first got into agriculture, he had visited a well-known strawberry expert, but was turned away because of his strong businessman's air. Later, after repeated efforts, the expert agreed to join, but required Wei Kui to promise to grow strawberries that even his own children could eat with peace of mind.

If you grow them, grow green, ecological strawberries that are safe to eat! With this simple sentiment, Wei Kui returned to Caochi Town and spared no expense, investing several times more than others, determined to build a golden brand of green strawberries for his hometown. Hard work pays off. Thanks to Wei Kui's persistence, "Rui Zhi Yuan" strawberries became a well-known local green brand and raised the overall image of strawberries in Caochi Town. He himself was also recommended as a key young farmer of Jianyang City.

"At present our strawberries are in short supply. The price is higher than at nearby bases, but the market response is very good." Wei Kui told the reporter that merchants from Chongqing and Chengdu are coming to place orders one after another. For some varieties, before the strawberries are even ripe, a flood of orders comes pouring in.

Wei Kui said with emotion that farming relies on conscience. Only by sticking to the path of green health can modern agriculture have hope. In the future, his strawberry base will adhere to the ecological green path and is determined to promote the transformation and upgrading of the local strawberry industry. He hopes his exploration can ultimately form planting standards and be promoted and replicated in his hometown.
