Liu Jingshuang: a bold and enterprising man who found prosperity

On the early morning of January 11, Liu Jingshuang, a worker of the Xinyuan Community of Xinhu Farm under the Sixth Division, got up to clean the pens, and flocks of sheep gathered around him bleating happily. He said cheerfully: "I've raised them with affection, and these sheep are so fond of me."

Liu Jingshuang, 48 this year, is short in stature with dark skin. With only a junior high school education, he started out with just 5 goats and 10 mu of land, and through an unyielding stubbornness and a hard-working spirit, he became known to everyone as a bold and enterprising man skilled at getting rich. Because he enthusiastically helps other workers around him get rich together, he was also awarded the title of "National Leader of Rural Youth in Getting Rich" by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League.

In 2009, Liu Jingshuang, who had always made a living by farming, found through investigation that raising cattle and sheep offered relatively large profit margins. After spotting this business opportunity, he raised funds from various sources and purchased more than 200 cashmere goats from elsewhere for a trial breeding. Since it was his first time raising cashmere goats and he had little experience, he consulted staff at the regimental farm's veterinary station about the key points of cashmere goat breeding and management, and on the other hand bought a large number of books on cashmere goat breeding to teach himself, and insisted on mixing feed and forage himself and watching over and caring for the ewes and lambs himself. Hard work pays off, and the cashmere goat breeding succeeded that very year, with a lambing rate of over 200% and a lamb survival rate of over 90%. That year Liu Jingshuang sold more than 100 cashmere goats, making a profit of nearly 100,000 yuan.

Seeing that Liu Jingshuang had made money, many workers also wanted to raise goats, so he unhesitatingly helped them bring in fine cashmere goat breeding stock and provided technical services free of charge. Under his leadership, in 2010, 10 worker households in his company raised cashmere goats, each increasing their income by 30,000 yuan. After the large-scale trial breeding succeeded, Liu Jingshuang again provided more than 50 cashmere goats free of charge to Ma Long, Zhao Jucai and other workers in difficulty in the company, encouraging them to develop the breeding industry, and provided them with forage and breeding techniques year-round.

Liu Jingshuang was not satisfied with merely raising sheep. After saving up some money, he began to develop fattening cattle and horses, raising 100 head of fattening cattle and 50 fattening horses, and led 15 worker households in winter fattening of cattle and sheep. After one fattening season, each household made a profit of more than 20,000 yuan. Having tasted the sweet fruits of success, Liu Jingshuang every year in September and October would take other breeders to Ili, Tacheng, Altay and other places to buy horses, cattle and sheep, and fatten them after returning. Over years of operation, he established many customer relationships, and gradually went from seeking out buyers to now having customers come to his door to buy cattle, horses and sheep, with very considerable economic benefits each year.

In 2013, after investigating the surrounding market and consulting friends at nearby regimental farms, Liu Jingshuang decided to plant linear chili peppers. He acted at once, signing a contract to plant 500 mu of linear chili peppers. After careful management through one growing season, the peppers grew gratifyingly well and a bumper harvest was in sight. Unexpectedly, just then the buyer named in the contract breached the agreement and refused to carry it out according to the purchase contract. To minimize losses, the unyielding Liu Jingshuang drove himself to the market to contact buyers. In Urumqi, Shihezi and Karamay, after nearly half a month of running around, all 500 mu of his linear peppers were sold, and he even reached intentions for long-term cooperation with some buyers.

In 2015, while contracting land, Liu Jingshuang raised cattle, horses and sheep, and at the same time operated 3 high-horsepower machines, 2 pump houses and nursery stock, with an annual income of more than 300,000 yuan. He often says: "As long as you have ideas and dare to act, there are many paths to prosperity."
