How to treat peach scab and leaf curl? Symptoms and treatment of brown rot and bacterial canker
There are many types of fruit trees, but there are many common fruit tree diseases, and many of them can be found. When preventing fruit tree diseases, the best thing you can do is prune the trees to allow sunlight and air to pass through the branches, because diseases spread easily in dark, damp environments.
Peach scab and leaf curl
Peaches, nectarines and plums often fall victim to the same problems, such as peach scab and peach leaf curl. With peach scab, the fruit and new shoots are covered with round black spots surrounded by a yellow halo. Remove the affected parts of the tree. With leaf curl, the leaves dry out and curl up on themselves. Apply a fungicide before the buds swell.
Brown rot
Brown rot is a particularly common fruit tree disease. Some of the many trees it can affect include: peaches, nectarines, plums, cherries, apples, pears, apricots, quince.
With brown rot, the stems, flowers and fruit are all covered with brown fungus, which eventually turns the fruit into mummies. Remove the affected parts of the tree and fruit, and prune to allow more sunlight and air circulation between the branches.
Bacterial canker
Bacterial canker is another disease that can be found on almost every fruit tree. Specific disease symptoms in fruit trees include holes in the leaves, and new shoots, or even entire branches, wilting. It is mainly found in stone fruit trees and trees that have suffered frost damage. Cut out the affected branches a few inches from the disease and use a fungicide.
