In a honey tangerine grove of several hundred mu in Xingtian Village, the reporter saw tangerines hanging all over the branches. But up close, the skin of many honey tangerines had already grown moldy, and rotten honey tangerines lay scattered everywhere on the ground. Hu Guangping, deputy director of the Xingtian Village Committee, did the math for the reporter: the whole village has 16,000 mu of honey tangerines; calculated at 3,000 kg per mu, total output reaches 48 million kg, of which one-fifth, the early-maturing varieties, were affected, estimated at around 9.6 million kg. A conservative estimate puts more than 5 million kg rotting in the fields, and many villagers have suffered heavy losses.
