Phalaenopsis cultivation opens up a new path to prosperity
Liu Shuhai is a flower grower at the Phalaenopsis production base in Zhangjiawo Town. Walking into Liu Shuhai's solar greenhouse, the fragrance of flowers greets you, and the colorful Phalaenopsis orchids competing to bloom have opened up a path to increased income and prosperity for local flower growers.
"Look, this purple-red Phalaenopsis is called Mantanghong, the yellow one is called Summer Gold, and the small ones are called Mantianxing... Phalaenopsis has a relatively long growth cycle, so temperature, light and other growing conditions must be used to control the growth rate of the flowers and ensure the flowering period," the reporter listened to flower grower Liu Shuhai explain while admiring the beautiful flowers.
A few years ago, Liu Shuhai and several farmers leased three solar energy-saving greenhouses at the base. Among them, two greenhouses grow finished flowers, and one greenhouse cultivates seedlings. According to him, a single finished Phalaenopsis plant can now sell for twenty to twenty-five yuan. One greenhouse can cultivate about 15,000 plants, and after deducting costs, the net profit is more than 100,000 yuan. Growing flowers has made his wallet bulge.
The flower growers have their own small accounts, and the base has its own big accounts. Since the Phalaenopsis base was built, it has developed into a comprehensive base with advanced cultivation and breeding technology, achieving a one-stop operation of seedling propagation, cultivation, production and sales. At present, the base has more than 60,000 sq m of various orchids, more than 100 varieties, and an annual seedling output of 5.2 million plants.
Zhang Minwang, head of the town's agricultural department, introduced that the base currently has a 40,000 sq m flower trading hall, 14 intelligent greenhouses and more than 300 solar energy-saving greenhouses. The intelligent greenhouses are mainly used for cultivating seedlings, and can cultivate more than 4.5 million plants annually. The energy-saving solar greenhouses are mainly leased by farmers to grow finished flowers. Among them, 70% of the cultivated Phalaenopsis seedlings are sold to Beijing, Shanghai, Henan, Hebei, Inner Mongolia, Shandong, Zhejiang and other places. Around the Spring Festival, the base sells 700,000 Phalaenopsis plants in a concentrated period, with sales revenue of more than 15 million yuan.
