Raising chickens opens a vibrant path to wealth
"National Agricultural Technology Promotion Demonstration County Science and Technology Demonstration Household" and Longquan City Science and Technology Demonstration Household Chen Jinqing, who was himself named one of the "2011 Lishui City Top 100 Rural Practical Talents." Just as he himself said, "Work diligently at production; if I am not rich this year, I will be rich next year," Chen Jinqing has persisted in his farming in exactly this way, carving out his own path to prosperity.
Raising chickens was not as simple as she had imagined; the first problem was finding a market. "I focus on the Partridge chicken brand; in spring and summer I release them to roam on the hillsides, and in autumn and winter I feed them natural feed." According to experts, she always believed that free-range chickens with good flavor would be welcomed by the market. However, what she never expected, believing that good chickens would find a good market, was that when she chose to build the chicken farm deep in the mountains for the sake of green mountains and clear waters, a year later she ran into difficulty selling them because of poor transportation.
Years of working as a migrant laborer made Chen Jinqing understand that working for others could only earn him a meal; to become rich he had to make up his mind to start his own business. In 2005, with the technical support of Associate Professor Shu Miao'an from the College of Animal Sciences at Zhejiang University, who served as a science and technology special commissioner, and with 20,000 yuan in project funding support from the government, Chen Jinqing returned to Pingnan and established a high-quality native chicken breeding base. Due to poor transportation, limited access to information, and poor sales, the native chicken breeding base was ultimately forced to close. Although he did not make money, Chen Jinqing accumulated a great deal of experience in raising chickens.
The road of entrepreneurship is always full of hardships and setbacks. One day in May of this year, he suddenly noticed that the droppings of his turkeys were somewhat abnormal, so he looked up information online, made comparisons, and actively communicated with a farm in Yancheng, finally confirming that the turkeys had blackhead disease. Because prevention and treatment were timely, the losses were not great.
From the "Road to Wealth" program on CCTV Channel 7, he learned that the specialty farming he now engages in is different from his past work in water transport; the former requires more patience and persistence, and he has gradually adapted to it.
