Growing melons in a "greenhouse within a greenhouse" puts them on the road to prosperity

You have seen greenhouse cultivation, but you have probably never seen a "greenhouse within a greenhouse"! Recently, the reporter came to the greenhouse fields of Yang Hao in Wulijing Village, Songcheng Subdistrict, Suiyang District, and saw more than a dozen farmers busy inside a 30-mu seedling greenhouse. Pointing to more than 20 greenhouses, Yang Hao said happily: "The muskmelons I grow are of very good quality. Each muskmelon can grow to more than 2 jin. Planting has just started now, and by May the first crop of muskmelons will be ready for market, selling for more than 8 yuan per jin."

At first glance, Yang Hao's greenhouses look no different from other people's. But look carefully, and his greenhouses are what you would call "a greenhouse within a greenhouse." It turns out he added another layer of greenhouse inside the warm greenhouse.

Yang Hao explained that one should not underestimate this two-layer-film greenhouse. It is precisely because of the extra layer that the greenhouse keeps heat better and the temperature inside is higher, so his greenhouse muskmelons can reach the market half a month earlier than those in other warm greenhouses. Counting on his fingers, Yang Hao calculated for the reporter that there are now 30 mu of land in total, and one mu of muskmelons can sell for more than 5,000 yuan, bringing a net income of about 150,000 yuan a year.

The reporter saw that Wulijing Village has a free reading room, and quite a few people come to read and look for materials. Yang Hao admitted that he uses his spare time to consult books on agricultural planting to supplement his knowledge of agricultural cultivation. Growing melons in a "greenhouse within a greenhouse" was invented by him after being inspired by the technique of building an arched tunnel inside a watermelon warm greenhouse. He explained that building this kind of greenhouse requires an investment of tens of thousands of yuan more than an ordinary greenhouse, but it brings even greater returns.

Afterward, the reporter followed Old Yang to his seedling greenhouse, where the muskmelon seedlings were growing beautifully. Old Yang talked with great interest about his "seedling-growing wisdom." He said: "To make the muskmelon seedlings grow vigorously, I buried heating wires underground. The temperature inside the greenhouse must be kept above 30 degrees to raise the survival rate of the muskmelon seedlings. The heating wires have to be kept on 24 hours a day, using roughly more than 100 kilowatt-hours of electricity a day. From the start of seedling cultivation to transplanting into the greenhouse, it takes roughly more than 1,500 kilowatt-hours of electricity."

When talking about sales channels, Yang Hao said excitedly: "The government is very supportive of our greenhouse cultivation. Every year in May, when the muskmelons ripen, customers from Zhengzhou, Zhumadian and Xuchang, put in touch by the government, drive their big trucks here to pick them up. We never have to worry about sales."

"The muskmelons I grow bring good returns, and this is thanks to the government's good policies." Yang Hao said with emotion that he has been growing muskmelons for 15 years and has accumulated a lot of experience and skills along the way. As a demonstration household for agricultural technology, he will further expand the scale of greenhouse cultivation in the future and freely promote the "greenhouse within a greenhouse" technique throughout the village, truly helping the farmers of Wulijing become prosperous.
