Early-ripening fresh peaches herald the New Year as green greenhouses in Qian'an, Hebei boost a bountiful harvest

"In just over 10 more days, the fresh peaches can be harvested, and the total output is estimated to reach 5,000 kg. Some will be for tourists to pick, and some will be sold to major supermarkets at 80 yuan per kg...," said Zhang Wenjun of Xiaoyangguanying Village, Yejituo Town, Qian'an City, while removing the paper bags from around the peaches and introducing them cheerfully.
It is now early spring with a lingering chill, but stepping into Zhang Wenjun's greenhouse, you are truly greeted with a fresh sight: emerald green branches and leaves, fresh peaches tinged with a slight red, and the aroma of fruit filling the air. In northern China, greenhouse peaches normally only begin to reach the market in April and May, yet Zhang Wenjun's greenhouse peaches ripened in early March. How did he do it?
Zhang Wenjun, 39 this year, is a quick-minded young man. In his early years, he ran an iron ore business and saved up some funds, and after several rounds of research he set his sights on the greenhouse peach project. In early 2015, he transferred more than 20 mu of sunny-slope land in his village, invested 400,000 yuan, and built 4 standard solar greenhouses, introducing 5,000 "Chunxue" early-ripening peach plants. Using dwarf dense planting cultivation techniques and a series of green fruit production measures such as applying farmyard manure, bee pollination, and bagging the fruit, the trees are now heavy with fruit. Because Zhang Wenjun's greenhouses are built on a sunny slope with sufficient and even light, supplemented by appropriately raising the greenhouse temperature, the ripening period of the "Chunxue" peaches is advanced. This not only fills the gap period in the fresh peach market, but also allows them to sell at a good price.
"At present, I have already established a green fruit planting professional cooperative. I want to pass on the successful experience to my fellow villagers, let everyone taste the sweetness, and lead them together onto the path of green development!" Zhang Wenjun said full of confidence.
