Wuwei: Wang Jianyun leads the way in developing prosperous industries
Relying on a series of Party policies benefiting the people, rural economic development in Wuwei City is changing with each passing day. In the process of accelerating the development of characteristic industries that enrich the people, more and more impoverished villages and impoverished households have embarked on the road to shaking off poverty and building a moderately prosperous life through developing the main production model of "facility agriculture and animal husbandry + characteristic forest and fruit industry." Songshu Village in Songshu Town, Liangzhou District is one of the representatives.
Starting in 2011, Songshu Village resident Wang Jianyun started from nothing, and he took the lead in planting all 20 mu of his family's farmland with thin-skinned walnuts.
"Don't underestimate these walnuts; they play a big role. They are our 'money trees,' and the whole village has taken the road to prosperity by planting walnuts." Wang Jianyun told reporters that in recent years, he has strictly followed technical procedures to dig trenches, prepare the land, and carry out planting. During the planting process, he humbly sought advice from technical cadres at the town forestry and fruit station, and left sufficient nutrient strips to ensure ventilation and light for the seedlings, and timely bagging and film mulching. After planting, according to the various growth stages of the walnut seedlings, he watered, fertilized, sprayed pesticides, weeded, and earthed up on time, ensuring that every thin-skinned walnut planted survived. For the walnuts already planted, management and protection were carried out strictly in accordance with the technical requirements of the walnut annual management calendar, ensuring the goal of survival in one year, fruiting in three years, and high yield in five years.
Now, under Wang Jianyun's demonstration and leadership, the villagers of the entire group are actively developing the characteristic forest and fruit industry. Up to now, the entire group has developed 569.3 mu of characteristic forest and fruit, reaching 4.74 mu per capita.
