Xu Yanhua, Who Became Rich by Raising Rabbits, Leads Fellow Villagers onto the Path of Increasing Income

Xu Yanhua, male, born in August 1979, a member of the Communist Party of China, is an ordinary young farmer from Xingcao Village, Luojin Town. In April 2006, after investigating many options, he resolutely resigned from his job as a mid-level manager in a private enterprise and returned to his hometown to start a business. Under the guidance of the local government and the fisheries, animal husbandry and veterinary departments, he invested 60,000 yuan to establish the Fuxing Breeding Rabbit Farm. Starting with an initial introduction of 46 high-quality breeding rabbits, he adopted new-style pens and new breeding techniques. Through meticulous management, in just a few short years it has grown into a modern-scale breeding farm with more than 4,600 cage spaces, a site area of more than 3,000 sq m, more than 500 breeding rabbits on hand, an annual output of 25,000 meat rabbits, annual sales of 1 million yuan and annual profit of 300,000 yuan.

While enriching himself, he did not forget to help his fellow villagers get rich together. In 2008, Xu Yanhua organized and established the Yongfu County Fuxing Rabbit Raising Professional Cooperative, building 1 breeding base with more than 600 breeding rabbits on hand and more than 8,000 commercial rabbits; and 20 science popularization demonstration bases with more than 40,000 rabbits on hand. The association now has 1 science popularization site and 7 farmer classrooms, equipped with computers, printers and other office equipment, sets of artificial insemination equipment for rabbits, indoor automatic ammonia detection equipment and a full set of meat rabbit breeding technical materials and other facilities. It is the largest meat rabbit production demonstration base and technical exchange base in Guilin City.

Its members are spread across more than 110 people in 7 townships and towns of Yongfu County, including Luojin Town, Suqiao Town, Yongfu Town, Baoli Township, Guangfu Township, Baishou Town and Sanhuang Township, and have also radiated to 5 counties and 9 townships around Guilin City. It implements a "five unified and four contracted" management model. Through breeding with improved varieties and improved methods, it receives and trains more than 2,000 people each year, the promotion rate of new science, new varieties and new technologies reaches more than 96%, the overall rabbit-raising benefit increases by 70%, and each cooperative member household increases income by more than 8,000 yuan on average. Large-scale meat rabbit breeding has become a new highlight of the breeding industry in Yongfu County. The cooperative markets 65,000 meat rabbits, accounting for 94% of the county's meat rabbit output, with sales revenue of more than 2.6 million yuan.
