Hebei Province expects moderate occurrence of pests in the first half of the year

Learned from the Provincial Plant Protection Station: based on pre-winter and early-spring surveys of disease and pest populations, combined with comprehensive analysis of factors such as agricultural planting structure, varietal resistance and meteorological forecasts, it is expected that major agricultural pests in our province will generally occur at moderate levels in the first half of 2016.

Wheat diseases and pests are expected to occur at overall moderate levels in 2016. Among them, wheat aphids will occur at outbreak levels, wheat spiders at moderate levels, wheat blossom midges at overall moderate levels, leaf rust shows an upward trend, and wheat powdery mildew will occur at moderately heavy levels.

Thrips will occur at moderately heavy levels in late-sown spring corn and early-sown summer corn fields; the second generation of armyworms has a relatively high risk of severe outbreak in local areas; the first generation of corn borers will occur at moderate levels in northern spring corn areas, with moderately heavy occurrence in some places.
