Tiny edible mushrooms head toward a broader world

From the base to the market, from local to other regions, right now it is about to build its own industrial park; in Yulin City, tiny edible mushrooms have begun to head toward a broader world. Production bases are spread across Fumian, Beiliu, Xingye, Rongxian and other places, with 7 demonstration bases; brands such as "Tianyuan Mushroom Industry", "Jingzhun Brand" and "Yikang Brand" have been created, with 10 market entities; more than 10 varieties grown on a large scale, including button mushrooms, wood ear mushrooms and oyster mushrooms, have been established, with annual output value exceeding 895 million yuan.

Each county establishes demonstration bases, and the results of the "12th Five-Year Plan" have already appeared

In the Xingye button mushroom planting base, planting greenhouses extend from one end of the road to the other; inside the greenhouses, three-dimensional racks are filled with edible mushroom sticks, layer upon layer, and mushrooms grow from one end of the sticks, densely packed, while workers are busy harvesting.

"This is the first batch of this year, and one day can produce one or two tons, mainly sold to Nanning and Guangzhou. We have 15 greenhouses, each 500 sq m, and each greenhouse produces 60,000 jin a year, basically sold at 6 yuan per jin, so the profit is quite considerable." Base manager Chen Wenzhu said while doing the accounts that the base was established in 2011. Because it adopts modern planting methods and there is large market demand, there is basically no need to worry about sales, and the base's demonstration role has attracted many people to visit and learn.

At present, basically every county and district in Yulin City has established an edible mushroom planting demonstration base. "In recent years, Yulin City has successively established demonstration bases such as the Fumian edible mushroom industry, Beiliu wood ear mushroom trial, Luchuan oyster mushroom, and Xingye button mushroom." said Lu Yuwen, director of the Municipal Institute of Microbiology. Driven by the demonstration role of the bases, Yulin City has developed more than 10 varieties grown on a large scale, including button mushrooms, wood ear mushrooms, oyster mushrooms and flat mushrooms, distributed in main production areas such as Beiliu, Xingye, Fumian and Rongxian, and has already formed base-oriented and large-scale development. During the "12th Five-Year Plan" period, the area, output and output value all doubled compared with the "11th Five-Year Plan".

The Yulin Municipal Institute of Microbiology is mainly engaged in research, demonstration and promotion of agricultural microbiology and edible mushroom technology. Through years of scientific research and practical tackling of key problems, it has not only built a center for breeding famous and superior mushroom strains, cultivated, introduced and promoted more than 40 famous and superior varieties and more than 130 strains, but also developed more than 10 key technologies such as facility-based temperature-controlled cultivation, cultivation of edible mushrooms using local raw materials, and off-season cultivation of oyster mushrooms. The research, development and promotion of technology and varieties were also a major key to the growth and expansion of Yulin City's edible mushroom industry during the "12th Five-Year Plan" period.

This year, Yulin City will expand 3 bases: oyster mushroom production, hairy wood ear mushroom trial, and intelligent temperature-controlled year-round button mushroom production.

With the government increasing support, tiny mushrooms are planned to build an industrial park this year

In recent years, the government has issued relevant policies, increased funding support, and treated the edible mushroom industry as a modern characteristic industry. Yulin City's edible mushroom development has become faster and faster, with area and output accounting for about 10% of the whole region. Now, facing shortcomings in mechanization, automation and informatization in Yulin City's edible mushroom development, Yulin City has given the answer to solving the problem of industrialized development: build an edible mushroom industrial park.

"At present, all work is being advanced in an orderly manner." Lu Yuwen said that the Yulin City edible mushroom industrial park project has started site selection work in "Wucai Tianyuan", initially set at the Beiliu Tang'an expressway exit, with an area of about 1,500 mu.

In order to speed up the construction of the industrial park, around this year's Spring Festival the city set out the "three immediatelys": immediately go to advanced regions to learn from their experience, immediately contact relevant departments, and immediately formulate a specific construction plan. A few days ago, Yulin City has organized a delegation to areas with relatively fast modern characteristic agriculture development in the Jiangsu-Zhejiang area to inspect and learn from their experience; next it will strengthen contact and communication with Yudong New Area, especially "Wucai Tianyuan", implement relevant work, and finally form a plan to report to the municipal government.

According to reports, the future edible mushroom industrial park will take the "five major concepts" of innovation, green, circular, efficiency and health as its theme, and build a park integrating scientific research, production, processing, post-production waste recycling, and even edible mushroom culture and catering.

Low threshold and quick results, it may become a new industry for poverty alleviation

Edible mushrooms are a "short, flat and fast" industry, with small investment and quick results, and generally costs can be recovered in about a year or half a year. Precisely because of this, its "money" prospects are increasingly favored by people.

At present, Yulin City has introduced, cultivated, preserved and promoted more than 40 varieties and more than 130 strains. In addition to satisfying the local market, products are also sold to Nanning, Liuzhou, Guilin, Guangzhou and Hainan, and even through these transfer points to overseas markets. External sales account for more than 80% of total sales, and market prospects are becoming broader and broader. Among them, the wood ear mushroom planting area is about 1.4 million sq m, with annual output reaching 13,700 tons and annual output value of more than 80 million yuan; oyster mushrooms are about 883,000 sq m, with annual output of 9,442 tons and output value reaching 95.62 million yuan.

Taking the common hairy wood ear mushroom and oyster mushroom as examples, Lu Yuwen analyzed their market prospects. "In recent years, the price fluctuations of edible mushrooms have been relatively small. The wholesale price of fresh wood ear mushrooms is 3 yuan/jin, and dried wood ear mushrooms are around 20 yuan/jin. Oyster mushrooms are basically 5 yuan-9 yuan/jin; the Fumian base recovered its investment in the same year and even made a slight profit."

"We started planting in 2014, planted 35 mu, and can plant twice a year. At normal prices, the output value can reach 1.3 million yuan per planting." Although they have been growing edible mushrooms for only two years, Yang Guoqin, head of the Municipal Yikang Mushroom Industry Planting Co., Ltd., is full of confidence in future prospects, and they plan to expand production this year.

Precisely because of "small investment and quick results", edible mushroom planting has also become a good choice on the road for farmers to become rich.

This year is a key year for Yulin City to carry out targeted poverty alleviation. It is reported that Yulin City is preparing to treat edible mushrooms as an industry for targeted poverty alleviation, and through measures such as increasing technical training and demonstration-driven development, let more farmers participate in taking off the "poverty hat"; in the large-scale development of the industry, Yulin City will take industrial upgrading as the main line, scientific and technological innovation as the driving force, market demand as the orientation, and industrial efficiency improvement as the goal, raise the "five modernizations" level of production specialization, large-scale operation, facility-based production, mechanization and branding, build an edible mushroom ecological circular economy, accelerate the modernization process of edible mushrooms, improve industrial efficiency, and effectively promote farmers' income growth.
