One egg fulfilled a farmer's dream of prosperity
His name is Wang Linji, and he is a worker of the Ninth Company of the Twelfth Regiment of the First Division of the **Production and Construction Corps. Because Wang Linji and his wife contracted cotton fields in the company a few years earlier, their income was low and could only maintain basic living. Looking at his family's less-than-comfortable living conditions, Wang Linji began to collect market information. Through market research, he found that raising laying hens was a very good project for becoming prosperous, so he made up his mind to develop the breeding business on a large scale - raising laying hens.
In 2009, with the strong support of the Twelfth Regiment's development of courtyard economy and the provision of interest-free loans, he invested more than 200,000 yuan to build a 520 sq m chicken house, and introduced more than 10,000 Roman laying hens from Urumqi, a new breed with strong disease resistance and high egg production. The chicken farm was quickly built, but once work began, many unexpected difficulties appeared. The first step was very unsuccessful. Due to a lack of scientific chicken-raising knowledge and relying only on traditional feeding methods, feeding and watering blindly, he did not expect these little creatures to be so hard to care for. Eat too much and they stuff themselves; eat too little and they starve to death. Low room temperature would not do, and high room temperature would not do either. Often, opening the windows caused them to catch a chill, while closing the windows caused them to overheat. Arranging the flock also required attention. If the density was too high, the chickens crowded together and ate unevenly. If the density was too low, it was not good for keeping warm, and the survival rate dropped. Then there was pecking among the chicks. Before feed was brought in, they still coexisted peacefully; after feed was brought in, they pecked each other's feathers, wings, and vents. In mild cases they were injured, and in severe cases they died. Often things like this happened: they were perfectly fine the night before, and the next morning a large number died for no clear reason. This made him very anxious, like a tank stuck in mud, unable to use its strength.
In order to raise the chickens well, he successively visited several large chicken farms in Aksu, and twice invited professional technicians to his home. He also bought books such as "Analysis of Poultry Diseases" and "Livestock and Poultry Breeding". After many sleepless nights and countless analyses, he often performed "open-cavity examinations" on dead chickens, and gradually mastered the chickens' living habits and common knowledge of pathology. He could correctly handle vaccination, disinfection, nasal dripping, and eye dropping, and gradually mastered the techniques of scientific chicken raising. He set up a stove in the shed to raise the temperature and carefully tended the remaining more than 7,000 baby chickens as if caring for his own children. A month passed, the chicks grew up, and the survival rate reached 98%. They laid eggs that year, realizing a profit of 130,000 yuan. After expanding the chicken house by 520 sq m, he formed a scale in chicken raising.
In 2014, Wang Linji's eggs were registered under the brand "Ge Ge Da". In the same year, his chicken farm was expanded from the original 500 sq m to 1,000 sq m, and the number of laying hens raised also increased from the original 20,000 birds to 50,000 birds, with a daily egg production of 500 kg. That year, he achieved a net profit of more than 500,000 yuan. Wang Linji's farm was rated by the division as a "Demonstration Site for Workers' Independent Entrepreneurship and Diversified Income Increase." Wang Linji therefore also became a well-known expert in becoming prosperous throughout the regiment. He often said: it was this one small egg that fulfilled my dream of prosperity.
