Yesterday (the 7th), the reporter learned from Beijing Construction Engineering Group and Beijing Vegetable Basket Group that construction has already started on the Beijing Fresh Agricultural Products Distribution Center project, which is planned to be completed in 2019 as a modern agricultural products logistics collection, distribution and sorting platform. It will also become the largest fresh agricultural products trading center in Asia.
Serving both the urban area and the administrative sub-center
"The large 'vegetable basket' will be built between the Southeast 5th Ring Road and 6th Ring Road." A person in charge of Beijing Construction Engineering Group, which has just won the bid for the project, brought out a location schematic diagram. He explained that the Beijing Fresh Agricultural Products Distribution Center is located in Heizhuanghu Township, Chaoyang District, adjacent to the Jingha Expressway, Jingjin Expressway, Jinghu Expressway and other main routes for agricultural products from other regions entering Beijing.
In fact, the "Beijing 12th Five-Year Plan Period Agricultural Products Circulation System Development Plan" already proposed building a citywide comprehensive agricultural products wholesale market at a high level in the Heizhuanghu area. It would focus on vegetable and fruit trading, cover the eastern and southern parts of the city, and develop into a large-scale wholesale market comparable in transaction scale to the Xinfadi Agricultural Products Wholesale Market, together forming with the Xinfadi Market a dual-core safeguard mechanism for ensuring the city's agricultural products market supply.
Information from the official website of Beijing Vegetable Basket Group shows that, in accordance with the requirements of the "Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Coordinated Development Plan Outline", as regional logistics bases and regional specialized markets within the 4th Ring Road are adjusted and withdrawn, the distribution center will not only become a modern platform for taking over from traditional agricultural products wholesale markets, but will also become a platform for the capital's safe agricultural products supply and emergency reserves. After completion, the distribution center will together with the Beijing Xinfadi Market form a "dual-center" pattern guaranteeing the capital's safe supply of agricultural products.
Unlike traditional agricultural products wholesale markets, the distribution center has 6 major areas: a centralized cold storage area, an unloading and turnover area, a management and service area, an exhibition and negotiation area, an electronic trading area, and a sorting and distribution area. A person in charge of Beijing Vegetable Basket Group told the reporter that this distribution center covers a radius of 25 km and can supply agricultural products both to Beijing's urban area and to the administrative sub-center.
Asia's largest agricultural products trading center
"The Beijing Fresh Agricultural Products Distribution Center project faces multiple challenges, including a large underground interconnected building area, many above-ground individual projects, a large project volume, and great difficulty in project quality control." Having won this project, project manager Zhang Bing, who has been in the industry for many years, felt great pressure.
The first phase covers an area of 305 mu, with a total floor area of 600,000 sq m, and the winning bid price for the project reached 3.378 billion yuan... Judging from the figures, this "vegetable basket" is not small in scale. A person in charge of Beijing Construction Engineering Group said the site will be divided into two major parts: the eastern half, Zone I, will be the fresh agricultural products trading area, and the western half, Zone II, will be the park's comprehensive service area.
From the current-stage rendering, the reporter saw that in the future the distribution center will become a huge complex of buildings outside the Southeast 5th Ring Road. The fresh agricultural products trading area will have a total of 7 buildings, which will include both cold storage and agricultural products trading functions, and between each building there will be outdoor platform connecting bridges; in the comprehensive service area, there will be a total of 5 buildings, all more than 20 m in height.
After full completion, the distribution center's above-ground floor area will be about 332,000 sq m and its underground floor area about 277,000 sq m, making it the largest fresh agricultural products trading center in Asia at present.
Planned to be completed in 2019
A person in charge of Beijing Construction Engineering Group revealed that the Beijing Fresh Agricultural Products Distribution Center is a livelihood project ensuring the capital's vegetable basket supply and a designated project of the capital's new rural construction.
As a modern platform for taking over after the withdrawal of traditional agricultural products wholesale markets, the Beijing Fresh Agricultural Products Distribution Center is positioned as a "trading and exhibition center, information service center, emergency reserve center, and sorting and distribution center".
In logistics and distribution, it will, based on the per capita consumption structure of fresh agricultural products in Beijing, form a scientific trading scale for various traded varieties and provide "one-stop" procurement and distribution services for end consumer groups.
The distribution center plans to establish an integrated logistics distribution center covering sorting, processing, packaging and sales, directly connecting major government organs, large hotels and community convenience vegetable stores, minimizing intermediate links, and exploring a "clean vegetables into the city" model. According to the introduction, this will reduce circulation costs and the market's dependence on land area, and reduce traffic flow and environmental pollution.
In display and sales, it will attract famous products from across the country and the world, becoming a frontier window for famous, excellent and special agricultural products to enter the market. In emergency support, through the construction of cold storage warehousing areas, it will play a public-welfare role in "ensuring emergency response, ensuring off-season supply, and stabilizing prices".
It is understood that the Beijing Fresh Agricultural Products Distribution Center has started construction and is planned to be completed in 2019. (Reporter Cao Zheng)
