Small bamboo shoots grow into a big industry: Huang Xuyou leads his fellow villagers to prosperity together

In the warm spring month of March, when flowers bloom, if you walk into Xinhua Township on the north bank of Taiping Lake in Huangshan District, you can see people hurrying along, some carrying loads on their shoulders and backs, some driving tractors, some riding motorcycles, all rushing to sell bamboo shoots packed in big bags and small bundles. When asked where the small bamboo shoots are sold, many people say: "Sold to Little Youzi of the Three Brothers! He is the leader on our road to prosperity!" The "Little Youzi" people speak of is Huang Xuyou, 41 years old this year, currently secretary of the Party branch of Dabao Village, Xinhua Township, Huangshan District, and legal representative of Huangshan District Three Brothers Bamboo Shoot Industry Co., Ltd.

Dabao Village is located in the north of Xinhua Township, Huangshan District, with a total population of 1,250. In the past, the main income of the villagers came from working away from home. In the early years, Huang Xuyou was also one of the "migrant workers." Because he was diligent and eager to learn, and willing to endure hardship, several years of striving enriched his experience, broadened his horizons, and allowed him to accumulate a certain amount of capital. In 2007, Huang Xuyou took a fancy to the abundant bamboo shoot and bamboo resources of his hometown and decided to return home to start a business. That year, he invested 500,000 yuan and founded Huangshan District Three Brothers Bamboo Shoot Industry Co., Ltd. The Three Brothers Bamboo Shoot Industry Co., Ltd. he founded is a diversified agricultural and sideline products processing factory, integrating the processing of dried vegetable products, edible fungi, starch-based and other agricultural products, and mainly dealing in bulk agricultural products such as Huangshan dried bamboo shoots. The enterprise has built two hot-air drying production lines for vegetables and possesses standardized workshops, warehouses, and fresh-keeping storage warehouses. It also successfully registered the "Lu Wannan" trademark. The three series of dried vegetable products, edible fungi, and starch-based products have obtained food production safety certification and have also applied for green food certification.

"Only lasting prosperity is true prosperity. Only when everyone is prosperous is it true prosperity." In December 2009, he led 8 farming households to establish the "Huangshan District Dabao Forestry Professional Cooperative," introduced new bamboo shoot production technology, and expanded scale operations. Over several years, the cooperative has continued to grow, with members increasing from the initial 8 households to more than 400 households today. In recent years, Three Brothers Bamboo Shoot Industry Co., Ltd. has implemented a second technical transformation and expansion, with annual production and processing capacity exceeding 5 million kilograms, driving more and more people onto the road to prosperity through bamboo shoots. Because Three Brothers Bamboo Shoot Industry Co. has a large purchase volume of fresh bamboo shoots, produces products of good quality, and has strong market sales, the purchase price of fresh bamboo shoots has risen year by year, from 1.6 yuan per kilogram in 2008 to 5.4 yuan this year. During the bamboo shoot purchasing season, the company purchases more than 100,000 jin of fresh bamboo shoots from bamboo shoot farmers every day, pays 300,000 yuan in purchase payments, and provides more than 80 jobs for local farmers.

Heaven rewards the diligent. In recent years, he has received many honors, successively including the 2005 Huangshan District Rural Prosperity Leader, 2006 Huangshan City Farmer Entrepreneurship Leader, 2007 Huangshan District "Top Ten" Youth Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Star, 2010 Huangshan District "Double Leadership" Model, 2011 Huangshan District Agricultural Industrialization Advanced Individual, 2011 Anhui Province Farmer Entrepreneurship Leader, and 2012 Huangshan District Agricultural Industrialization Advanced Individual, among others. He said: "In the future, only by further expanding and strengthening the bamboo shoot industry and driving more farmers to increase their income can I best repay society."
