As the saying goes, those who live near the mountains live off the mountains, and those who live near the water live off the water. Nowadays, in Chonggu Tun, Heli Village, Xinxu Town, Guanyang County, there is just such a villager who lives off the mountains, planting medicinal herbs and digging out a path to prosperity.

On April 15, our group came to the home of Lu Huanping, a villager in Chonggu Tun, Heli Village, and saw that many medicinal herbs were planted on his mountain land and around his house, mainly Paris polyphylla (Qiye Yizhihua), along with a small amount of Polygonatum (Huangjing) and other herbs.

It is understood that the main components of Paris polyphylla are various saponins, represented by Paris polyphylla saponins. It has the effects of clearing heat and detoxifying, reducing swelling and relieving pain, and soothing the liver and calming shock. It is used to treat toxic sores, sore and swollen throat, snake and insect bites, bruises and injuries, and convulsions.

Lu Huanping said he had trial-planted Paris polyphylla for 4 years. At that time, he collected wild seedlings from the mountains and trial-planted them, and succeeded. Because the market price was good, he introduced the plant on a large scale. Besides collecting and planting seedlings on the mountain himself, he also bought seedlings that fellow villagers had pulled up from the mountains to plant. The current planting area is more than 2 mu. At present, he is not in a hurry to sell, and is carefully raising seedlings, hoping to expand the planting area further.

In recent years, the Party committee and government of Xinxu Town have attached great importance to this and actively guided farming households to develop the planting of Chinese medicinal herbs. The varieties planted include Paris polyphylla, Polygonatum, honeysuckle and others. At present, the town's Chinese medicinal herb area has reached more than 1,000 mu. In particular, farming households in some mountain villages have developed under-forest planting while timber forests have not yet matured, and some have developed courtyard planting around their houses. This has produced very good results in helping the people of mountain villages shake off poverty and become prosperous.
