Post-80s Young Man in Yixian County, Anhui Chases His Fish-Farming Dream
In Wangcun Group, Tongchuan Village, Hongxing Township, Yixian County, 18 fish ponds are arranged in sequence from top to bottom, with clear, emerald-green water. This is exactly the cold-water fish farming project base of Zheng Haiyan, a post-80s entrepreneurial young man from the village.
Zheng Haiyan is a post-80s young man from Tongchuan Village. After graduating from junior high school, he had always been engaged in the timber and tea business at home. By a chance opportunity, the Yixian County Agricultural Committee organized entrepreneurial young people to go out for study and inspection, and the spring-water fish farming in Xiuning sparked his interest. After returning, through many visits and investigations, he discovered that Wangcun Group in his hometown had a valley, with a stream flowing down, crystal clear and pollution-free, an ideal place for farming spring-water fish. So he began busying himself with land transfer, building water channels, and constructing fish ponds. After several months of effort, an 18-pond spring-water fish farm with an investment of more than 3 million yuan was completed.
Arriving at the fish ponds, one can see a stream of spring water flowing directly from the mountain into the first fish pond. In the crystal-clear fish pond, fish swim joyfully one after another. A technician happened to come to feed the fish. As handfuls of fish feed fell from the technician's hands through the air, the fish quickly gathered toward the middle, leaping up one after another, and the water surface immediately resounded with splashing, sending water droplets flying……
“The mountain spring water is cold and weakly alkaline. Fish raised with mountain spring water taste good, are in great demand in the market, and have good prospects for increasing income and becoming prosperous.” Zheng Haiyan said while cutting fresh fish grass and talking with this writer, “Being able to smoothly carry out the spring-water fish farming project is inseparable from the care and support of the township Party committee and government. The government helped me transfer 100 mu of land and also actively helped me secure a 500,000-yuan family farm risk guarantee loan. At the same time, relevant experts and technical personnel from the Agricultural Committee also frequently come to my place to provide on-site services, offering technical support for my project and relieving my worries.”
It is understood that the project has a total investment of 20 million yuan and consists of four parts: an adult fish farm, a fry farm, a fish feed planting farm, and a sightseeing experience garden. At present, the construction of 18 fish ponds and their surrounding ancillary works has been completed, with 10,000 kilograms of grass carp fry and 500,000 stone fish fry put in. In the early stage, he and his relatives managed it together. Next, he will hire several experienced farmers locally to manage the fish ponds for him, pass on spring-water fish farming techniques to everyone, and drive more villagers to become prosperous together.
When talking about profits, he calculated a detailed account for this writer: “One fish fry costs 0.8 yuan, and adult fish sell for 10 yuan each. Grass carp cost about 15 yuan each, and after 'slimming,' each can sell for about 100 yuan. At present, these two kinds of fish are mainly farmed. Next, I will increase the variety of fry, expand the scale of the industry, and improve economic returns.” According to him, these fish are mainly sold to the Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai area. He already has many orders now, and sales are not a problem at all.
