Passion fruit fragrance spreads to a hundred households, farmers in Gangnan District, Guigang City increase income and prosper
Guangxi News Network - Guangxi Daily Guigang Report (Reporter/Tang Zhengfang, Correspondent/Liu Zhining) Passion fruit trees are covered with ripe passion fruit, and more than 10 villagers are busy digging soil, fertilizing, and pruning branches and leaves... This is the scene the reporter saw on March 27 at the passion fruit planting base in Dongling Village, Dongjin Town, Gangnan District, Guigang City.
“Working at the base every day, I can earn 70 to 80 yuan, and I can also learn techniques for growing passion fruit.” said villager Luo Xiuzhen, who was busy working. She is 60 years old this year and works at the passion fruit base, and has also mastered techniques in raising seedlings, pruning, and picking fruit. The land in Dongling Village is mainly low hills and gentle slopes. Under the guidance of the poverty alleviation department, last year economically capable people developed passion fruit planting through land transfer, opening up a new path for industrial poverty alleviation. Now, more than 20 villagers like Luo Xiuzhen have found employment at their doorstep.
“Passion fruit planting requires little investment, has a short cycle, and yields quickly, with a harvest in just a few months.” said Gan Ruwei, head of the Songbai Passion Fruit Planting Professional Cooperative in Gangnan District. At present, the planting scale is more than 200 mu, with an annual output of 100,000 kg of passion fruit and 300,000 passion fruit seedlings cultivated. “We encourage surrounding farmers to join in the development together, and now more than 10 farming households have joined.”
A relevant person in charge of the Poverty Alleviation Office of Gangnan District said: “This year, we plan to provide subsidy support in areas such as fruit seedlings and fertilizer materials, guide the cooperative to cooperate with poor villages through the ‘company + cooperative + base + poor households’ model, provide seedlings and technical guidance to poor households, sign purchase contracts, establish stable planting and sales channels, and use industrial poverty alleviation to help poor households escape poverty and become prosperous.”
