When seeing patients, village doctor Long Xunzheng often likes to play on his mobile phone, yet the villagers all smile and do not disturb him. On the afternoon of April 14, this somewhat puzzling scene took place at the village health clinic of Longjiabian Village, Guangna Town, Tongjiang County, Bazhong City.

What could be so interesting? Taking Long Xunzheng's mobile phone, he was in a "group chat" with 7 doctors from the county hospital! "This is a consultation platform specially opened for village doctors, called 'Village Doctor Online,' dedicated to diagnosing complicated illnesses for villagers," Long Xunzheng explained with a smile.

This innovation is a microcosm of the health poverty alleviation work in Tongjiang County, Bazhong City. The county has multi-dimensionally connected with "Internet Plus" healthcare, bringing county doctors to the village doorstep.

90% of village doctors use "Village Doctor Online"

Long Xunzheng is the only general practitioner at the village health clinic. More than 70 impoverished households in the village all come to him when they get sick.

Villager Zhao Mingli, who lives 4 km away, has long lost count of how many times he has been here. He suffers from high blood pressure. Last time he went up the mountain to gather firewood, he suddenly fainted and collapsed, nearly losing his life.

When his family brought Zhao Mingli to the village health clinic, Long Xunzheng immediately opened his mobile phone and sought help from experts at the County People's Hospital through "Village Doctor Online." Under the experts' guidance, Long Xunzheng pulled Zhao Mingli back from the brink of death.

The reporter opened the "Village Doctors' Home" on Village Doctor Online and found that it allows viewing information on all medical workers within the county, including names, institutions, specialties, contact information, and more.

Chen Mingchun, director of the Tongjiang County Health and Family Planning Bureau, introduced that after the Tongjiang health and family planning Village Doctor Online platform was put into operation in January this year, each village doctor was equipped with a mobile phone and issued an internal login account. Currently, 90% of medical workers in the county have registered "Village Doctor Online" accounts.

More than one village doctor said that "Village Doctor Online" is not only convenient to use, but also opens up a communication channel between experts across the county and village doctors, greatly improving work efficiency and reducing the misdiagnosis rate. "In the past, many serious illnesses could not be treated in the village, and patients had to travel to the town or county," said villager Wang Xiuying. "Village Doctor Online" has reduced the burden of seeking medical care, and now seeing a doctor at the village clinic feels very reassuring.

"Internet Plus" healthcare attracts patients from other provinces

"We have also built a regional consultation center covering the entire county, a primary healthcare institution management system, a one-stop service platform for targeted health poverty alleviation, and a digital vaccination information platform," Chen Mingchun said.

Tongjiang County has even attracted "patients" from other provinces. Qiu Houzhen from Zhuyu Town, Shaanxi Province, had long-term lower back pain and took medicine at home for more than half a year without improvement, so she drove more than 30 km to Tiexi Central Health Center. Doctor Mao Jin'an, through the regional consultation information system, sent Qiu Houzhen's X-ray to the Medical Imaging Department of Tongjiang County People's Hospital for help. Before long, the diagnosis result came back via QQ: confirmed as lumbar bone hyperplasia. Through targeted treatment, Qiu Houzhen's condition has improved.

In March last year, the Chinese PLA General Hospital signed a 5-year medical technology assistance agreement with Tongjiang County People's Hospital, opened telemedicine, and provided free training for 22 backbone doctors from Tongjiang. Today, remote consultation has reached deep into townships. Dazhan Town has already built a regional medical consultation center covering the entire county, a vaccination informatization system, online appointment registration, and other services. "All measures are for health poverty alleviation," said Yue Chengfeng, director of the office of the Tongjiang County Health and Family Planning Bureau. Tongjiang County has tailor-made targeted medical and health poverty alleviation preferential policies for registered impoverished people, and the county finance department allocates 3 million yuan in special funds each year to precisely "drip-irrigate" registered impoverished people. "In the future, we will issue a QR code to every villager, and all medical information will be networked and shared. By then, the network system will automatically remind villagers of physical examination times and other medical treatment information..." Yue Chengfeng said.
