Taking root in the soil to grow vegetables well

In Fangying Village, Wangcun Township, Wolong District, Nanyang City, at the Jinfengyuan Vegetable Planting Professional Cooperative, 56-year-old farmer Zhang Jun is working in the fields.

"I came to Fangying Village in 2012 to contract land for vegetable planting. So far I have invested nearly 10 million yuan and built more than 200 greenhouses, totaling more than 200 mu. There are two crops a year, in spring and autumn, mainly growing more than 20 varieties including bitter melon, tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers."

Zhang Jun is Zhang Qi's fifth uncle, a true Henan farmer. After learning that his nephew wanted to expand into large-scale planting, he took root in these fields without a second thought, handling operations and managing cultivation, and working the land himself during busy farming seasons.

"Only farmyard manure is applied, no pesticides are used, insect-proof nets are installed in the greenhouses, and weeding is done by hand." When Zhang Jun talked about farming, his pride was evident in his words.
