Beijing and Zhangjiakou will open a "network expressway"

Zhangbei County in Zhangjiakou City has rolled out new measures in building the "China Data Dam - Zhangbei Cloud Computing Industry Cluster Zone." A few days ago, a reporter learned from the on-site coordination meeting on network construction for the Zhangbei cloud computing industry base that a high-efficiency direct network channel from Zhangbei to Beijing will be opened to improve the network support capacity of the cloud computing base.

Servers to reach 1.5 million by 2020

Located on the Bashang plateau, Zhangbei enjoys unique advantages for developing the cloud computing industry - its average annual temperature is only 2.6°C, which can save 45% of cooling costs for data center operations; its annual wind and photovoltaic power generation is very high, which can also provide enterprises with ample electricity supply.

The reporter learned that at present, because Zhangbei's network lines have no interface, all data transmission must pass through Tangshan or Shijiazhuang before entering the backbone network. This not only increases enterprises' network transmission costs, but also reduces data transmission speed.

To promote the rapid development of the "China Data Dam - Zhangbei Cloud Computing Industry Cluster Zone," Zhangbei held an on-site coordination meeting on network construction for the cloud computing industry base. Relevant departments including the Beijing Communications Administration, the Hebei Provincial Communications Administration and the three major telecom operators studied and coordinated multi-route direct network connections from Beijing to Zhangbei, and reduced rental fees for high-speed conduits and optical cables.

At the meeting, Zhangbei also presented the construction of the cloud computing industry base, project signings, future development and network bandwidth demand. The three major telecom operators respectively introduced the progress of opening a high-efficiency direct network channel from Zhangbei to Beijing and their next work plans. Relevant departments such as the Beijing Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology and the Hebei Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology discussed adding Zhangbei as a national-level direct connection point city for the Internet backbone and providing support in IP address allocation.

With the rapid advancement of Zhangbei's cloud computing projects, the required network bandwidth will increase year by year. According to estimates, this year Zhangbei is expected to develop to 100,000 servers, with dedicated transmission line bandwidth reaching 500G and total Internet export bandwidth reaching 300G; by 2020 it is expected to develop to 1.5 million servers, with more than 200 resident enterprises, the scale of related industries exceeding 100 billion yuan, dedicated transmission line bandwidth reaching 8000G, and total Internet export bandwidth reaching 6550G.

Building the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei big data pilot zone

The Zhangbei cloud computing industrial park has been designated as Hebei Province's only big data base. The reporter learned at the meeting that Zhangbei's cloud computing projects have already achieved remarkable results. Among them, the Alibaba Cloud Zhangbei CloudLink Data Center project and the Data Port Zhangbei Data Center project were delivered for use at the end of April and the end of May respectively. In addition, 7 projects including the Alibaba Cloud demonstration display site, the Alibaba Zhongdu Grassland Data Center and the China Education Cloud Data Base have been signed. At the same time, enterprises such as Foxconn, Apple, Inspur, Microsoft, Gehua Cable, China UnionPay and Beijing Shougang have also reached preliminary cooperation intentions.

This year, Zhangbei will proactively undertake the extension of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei information industries toward the value-added service layer and supporting-end product layer, and compile regulatory detailed plans for the spatial layout, industrial development and land use of the cloud computing industrial park from a high starting point. Driven by big data and "Internet Plus," it will spur industrial innovation and upgrading and the transformation of production and life, fully promote the commencement of construction of 8 projects such as the Education Cloud Data and Rongtai Cloud Computing Center as scheduled, strengthen network support, and strive to build a dual-route high-efficiency direct channel from Zhangbei to Beijing.

During the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, Zhangbei will take building the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei big data comprehensive pilot zone as the guide and the cloud computing industrial park as the driver, accelerate the clustering of data centers, complete a number of cloud computing data centers such as the Alibaba Cloud and China Education Cloud bases, build a Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei cloud computing industry cluster zone, build a national-level cloud manufacturing base, and deepen cloud computing applications. By 2020, a complete information industry chain integrating cloud R&D, cloud manufacturing, cloud data and cloud services will basically take shape.

Nine clouds hold up the "China Data Dam"

This year Zhangbei will introduce domestic and foreign private cloud and hybrid cloud solution providers and cloud computing system integration enterprises, develop overall cloud computing solutions for key industries and government public services in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, advance the construction of cloud computing service platforms, introduce a number of cloud computing and big data service enterprises, serve the construction of the "Cloud Hebei" system, and provide support for building the "9+N" unified cloud service platforms of Hebei Province (government cloud, industrial cloud, business cloud, education cloud, transportation cloud, environmental protection cloud, food and drug safety cloud, health cloud, tourism cloud, etc.).

The implementation of the Alibaba Northern Cloud Base project marks that Zhangbei County's cloud computing projects have officially entered a substantive stage, playing a demonstration and driving role in building the "China Data Dam - Zhangbei Cloud Computing Industry Cluster Zone."
