Young Couple in Anping Town, Hunan Return Home to Start a Chicken Farming Business
In Group 5 of Qingshan Village, Anping Town, Lianyuan City, post-80s young couple Wu Bao'an and Liu Chanyue are determined to find a path to prosperity in the countryside and have set up a professional chicken farm. The farm has grown from small to large, from a single breed to multiple breeds, and has thereby become widely known.
In 2002, Wu Bao'an graduated from high school and worked in Lianyuan City and then ran a factory in Foshan, Guangdong. In 2006, Wu Bao'an returned to his hometown, intending to start a chicken farm in the countryside.
In the first half of 2010, after learning in detail about the chicken market and site information, Wu Bao'an rented an old factory site of the Zhumei Tea Factory and began to set up a chicken farm. Wu Bao'an purchased chicks from Henan, Guangdong and other places. Practice proved that chicks from Henan, Guangdong and other places were of good quality and very well adapted to the southern climate. Wu Bao'an self-studied a large number of breeding books, looked up chicken farming experience online, and learned from and exchanged ideas with fellow chicken farmers. During the feeding process, Wu Bao'an solved problems such as indoor climate change, temperature, air flow and pollution, and the survival rate of the chicks reached over 95%. From raising 5,000 at the start, he expanded to raising 20,000, with a relatively good economic return.
After working continuously for 4 years at the rented Zhumei Black Tea Factory, due to the narrow site, aging buildings and poor environment, Wu Bao'an thought for a long time and decided to acquire land to build a professional farm. After on-site inspection, he acquired 2 mu of wasteland on the back hill not far from his home. Starting in April 2015, he raised more than 1.4 million yuan, and by the end of the year, he had built a four-story professional chicken farm of more than 3,500 sq m. After the new specialized breeding building was put into use, he purchased more than 80,000 chicks of four or five breeds from Guangdong, Henan, Guangxi and other places. After 2 months of feeding, they grew into ready-to-sell chickens, attracting more than 300 individual operators from more than 20 places including nearby Xiangxiang, Anhua, Shuangfeng, Lengshuijiang, and Fukou, Longtang, Gutang and Baima, who rushed to buy them. To date, the “Baoyue Farm” set up by Wu Bao'an and Liu Chanyue has sold more than 50,000 chickens, with revenue reaching more than 1 million yuan, and the annual breeding and sales volume is expected to reach more than 200,000.
