Wangji Farm in Hubei welcomes a good start for ten thousand mu of vegetables
In recent years, Wangji Farm of the Hubei Provincial State Farms has guided agricultural workers to adjust their industrial structure. In the Xinxing, Sanzhou and Hanshui brigades, where the soil is highly sandy and suitable for Chinese yam and dwarf lilyturf production, they have vigorously developed high-yield cash crops such as medicinal Chinese yam and dwarf lilyturf; in the mountain brigades with harder soil, they have vigorously developed watermelon and peanut production, forming a new pattern of specialty agriculture with "one brigade, one product". After this specialty agriculture took shape, the farm continued to provide follow-up services, guiding agricultural workers to establish 67 specialized cooperatives for vegetables, grain and oil, peanuts and others, responsible for the production and sales of specialty agricultural products.
The 25,000 mu of vegetables grown on the farm, including cabbage and baby cabbage, soared from 1.4 yuan per kg when first marketed to the current 2.1 yuan per kg. Relying on the price rise alone, farmers increased their income by more than 20 million yuan, and specialty agriculture embarked on a virtuous cycle of "development - income growth - development".
