Yuzhong Large-Scale Farmer Raises 10,000 Chickens and Earns a Million a Year
In the quiet mountain forest, flocks of free-range chickens are raised ecologically. On May 8, at the Kangyuan Ecological Breeding Professional Cooperative in Hongsi Village, Xiaokangying Township, Yuzhong County, Ma Jiangong was feeding his free-range chickens corn and weeds. Flocks of chickens came running to his side, scrambling to peck at the food. The barren hills that once drew no attention are now benefiting the local people with enormous economic potential. Speaking of ecological chicken farming, Ma Jiangong immediately became talkative: "Our cooperative currently has more than 10,000 free-range chickens, and the returns are considerable. Next, we will also free-range wild boars, sika deer and other livestock and poultry."
Speaking of the advantages of ecological chicken farming in the cooperative, Ma Jiangong said frankly that ecological chicken farming requires little investment, produces quick results, offers considerable profits, and is not technically demanding, so ordinary people can master the essentials, making it suitable for every household to develop. At the same time, the chickens have a large range of activity, strong disease resistance, and few epidemics. Moreover, the grass and insects in the woodland provide rich nutrition for the chickens, and the chicken manure also helps the trees grow. In particular, the eggs laid by ecological chickens contain no additives, no hormones, and no drug residues, meeting people's current demand for green and healthy consumption.
For many years, Ma Jiangong had been working in construction engineering away from home. But with the adjustment of the economic structure in recent years, the construction business became increasingly difficult to run. Faced with the livelihood problem of seventy or eighty workers and the growing difficulty for more and more fellow villagers to find work, Ma Jiangong, after careful consideration, planned to transform his business and move into another industry. After sufficient market research, combined with the rich social experience and valuable lessons he had accumulated over years of striving, he believed that raising free-range chickens was an industry with development prospects. Taking his own actual situation into account, he resolved to return to his hometown to raise free-range chickens and lead the villagers to prosperity together.
By selecting a site and understanding the actual conditions, he analyzed his own advantages and those of the environment. Nowadays, as the living standards of urban and rural people improve, people have increasingly high requirements for the ecological quality of food, and ecological chickens and ecological eggs are both deeply welcomed by people. The wasteland around Hongsi Village is clean and pollution-free, and its unique natural conditions make it an ideal location for building an ecological chicken farm. Moreover, a small ecological chicken farm requires little investment and is not technically demanding, and free-range chicken eggs sell well on the market. So in 2014, Ma Jiangong raised funds through various channels and built a free-range chicken breeding base. To save expenses, he did the work himself, and the chicken farm was soon completed, and he purchased the first batch of 5,000 chicks. However, during the rearing process, many unexpected difficulties arose. In order to raise the chickens well, he repeatedly invited technical personnel to the chicken farm for on-site guidance, and also bought books on chicken farming techniques to learn breeding technology. By updating the rearing methods, and under his careful feeding and attentive care, the survival rate of the chicks reached more than 95%. Over the course of a year, because the free-range chickens in his professional cooperative are not fed feed and mainly eat weeds and insects, the free-range chicken eggs they produce have high nutritional value and are pollution-free, and have been favored by many consumers, with a very broad market.
Having mastered scientific chicken farming techniques and having tasted the benefits, he expanded his breeding scale this year and has now released more than 10,000 free-range chickens. Calculated at 100 yuan per chicken, this single item alone can bring an annual income of 1 million yuan. In addition, together with the income from free-range chicken eggs, the income is quite good.
While earning returns from his business, Ma Jiangong did not forget his neighbors. He encouraged and guided his neighbors to join the ranks of ecological chicken farming through methods such as joining with woodland shares and capital shares, and he always patiently coached the neighbors who came to him for advice. At present, many people in the village have joined the ranks of breeding. "To get rich, there is no need to go far away; the stage is right at your doorstep!" This is something he often says.
When mentioning Ma Jiangong's deeds of returning to his hometown to start a business, the village cadres and masses all nodded in praise: "Ma Jiangong is a talent in our village. What Hongsi Village lacks is exactly such a leader in getting rich. With an industry, our good days are not far away!"
Through exploration and practice, Ma Jiangong found the path to prosperity for himself and his fellow villagers. Speaking of his future plans, he said that next he will work even harder and devote greater enthusiasm to the free-range chicken breeding industry, so that his ecological breeding farm will continue to develop and grow, while leading more fellow villagers onto the road to prosperity!
