On May 5, the Hong Kong-supplied vegetable base at the Sheqi Demonstration Park of Nanyang Zhongde Agricultural Technology was a scene of bustling activity.
The demonstration park is planned to cover 15,000 mu, with a total investment of 120 million yuan. The first phase, a 2,000-mu Hong Kong-supplied vegetable base, was completed and put into operation in January last year in the Sheqi County Modern Agriculture Pilot Zone. The base has introduced high-tech methods, implements full factory-style management, all-weather production and rotational cropping, and can grow and harvest 9 crops of choy sum and 5 crops of Chinese kale each year, producing 9,500 tons of Hong Kong-supplied vegetables annually, with sales revenue of 76 million yuan.
According to the company's person in charge, the demonstration park employs more than 400 workers year-round, with 35,000 seasonal workdays, and can help hundreds of farmers find employment and prosper at their doorsteps; every day, after the vegetables are inspected and loaded onto trucks, they depart at 8 a.m. and can reach the Hong Kong market by 10 a.m. the next day.
