News from May 17: Entering mid-May, Zadoi County in Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, known as "China's No. 1 county for cordyceps", has entered the cordyceps harvesting period. Through years of promoting ecological harvesting methods for cordyceps, the county government has made backfilling with turf after harvesting cordyceps a "customary practice" among local herders. According to local Tibetan customs, on the 1st and 15th day of each month, the "army" of harvesters stops harvesting, collects the domestic waste generated during harvesting, and transports it from the harvesting areas to the townships for recycling, so as to prevent damage to the ecological environment. Qinghai's cordyceps output accounts for about 60% of China's total. Zadoi County is one of the province's important cordyceps production areas. Located at the source of the Lancang River in the core area of the Three Rivers Source, the cordyceps produced here is characterized by large size, excellent texture, good color and long stroma.
