The Jinggang Honey Pomelo King Leads the Masses onto the Road to Prosperity

To replace orange trees with Jinggang honey pomelos, others have to pull the orange trees out by the roots, replant and cultivate them, and only after several years can they enter the full-bearing period. But Deng Lanyun, chairman of the Wan'an County Lufeng Fruit Industry Development Professional Cooperative, does not have to go to such trouble. He only needs one year to achieve the variety switch and enter the full-bearing period, and he can also make a single fruit tree bear more than 10 different kinds of fruit at the same time, with 100% survival and pure varieties.

Deng Lanyun graduated in 1994 from the Jiangxi Agricultural Correspondence University with a major in fruit and vegetable studies. The knowledge taught by his teachers in class gave him a strong interest in fruit tree grafting techniques, which are in wide demand in rural areas. Combining the theoretical knowledge he learned with years of exploration and practice, Deng Lanyun has now maturely mastered top grafting techniques that even senior agricultural experts marvel at. It was precisely with this skill that Deng Lanyun set foot on the path of agricultural industry development. In 2008, Deng Lanyun and several fruit growers jointly established the Lufeng Fruit Industry Development Professional Cooperative and began planting navel oranges, Nanfeng tangerines and other fruit trees.

With strong support from the county agricultural comprehensive development office and other relevant departments, the cooperative's planting base area has continued to expand, and it gradually kept pace with the city's development of leading agricultural industries, gradually shifting to focus on developing Jinggang honey pomelo planting, expanding by 500 mu in 2014 alone. At present, the cooperative has more than 3,500 mu of planting bases, including more than 1,600 mu of Jinggang honey pomelos, and has registered the "Fujing" trademark and established a stable honey pomelo sales network.

Deng Lanyun has become a widely known "Jinggang Honey Pomelo King." Not only that, the base has also planted more than 30 mu of early-maturing mandarins, bayberries, loquats, plums, kumquats and other crops, and has developed pig farming, masked palm civet breeding and water-surface aquaculture, using livestock to support planting and planting to promote livestock, truly moving toward an ecological leisure and sightseeing agriculture development model.

Being rich yourself does not count as being rich; only when everyone is rich together is it truly wealth. Deng Lanyun fully leverages his technical advantages. Not only does he use the base as a platform to help 32 impoverished households escape poverty and become wealthy through methods such as capital investment, land investment and product consignment sales, but with the guidance and help of the county Party committee organization department, he has also upgraded the base into the county's agricultural technology "gas station." Three shining plaques - the fruit industry practical training base for cadre technical learning and application activities, the fruit industry planting practical training base of the Party member entrepreneurship incubation center, and the Party member and cadre modern distance education terminal site - have attracted Party members and cadres from across the county to come for study and training. Through them, the reach of Deng Lanyun's technical services rapidly expanded to 17 townships (farms) across the county.

"When you run into technical problems growing honey pomelos, finding Old Deng is sure to be right!" Today, Deng Lanyun has become a trusted guide to wealth for the broad masses of farmers in Wan'an. According to incomplete statistics, he has led more than 600 farming households in Wan'an and Taihe onto the road to wealth through Jinggang honey pomelo planting.
