Walnut growers in Mangshui Town, Changning County see an average household income increase of 8,440 yuan

In recent years, Mangshui Town in Changning County, Baoshan City, Yunnan Province, has helped farming households increase their incomes and prosper by growing bubble walnuts. Following the working approach of “wide scope, strong efforts, full coverage, extensive training,” the town has made every effort to popularize and promote bubble walnut tending and management techniques, continuously raising farmers' technical level in bubble walnut tending and management.

According to statistics, since the bubble walnut tending work began in 2012, through 2014 the town completed walnut tending on 83,000 mu; in 2015 it completed the improvement of 4,000 mu of low-efficiency walnut forest, completed the science and technology service pilot project of the new agricultural socialized service system for the walnut industry, including thinning dense stands and filling gaps with 1,000 plants, rejuvenating old trees with 1,000 plants, and creating wounds to boost production with 15,000 plants, and carried out training on bubble walnut tending and management techniques, with more than 300 people trained.

As of the end of last year, the town's total bubble walnut planting area reached 168,000 mu, with total dry nut output of 3,980 tons, achieving an output value of 78.2 million yuan, up 37% year on year, and an average household income increase of 8,440 yuan.
