The Complete Guide to Potato Storage Methods: Many Practical Tips Worth Saving
1. Methyl naphthaleneacetate treatment method: Dissolve 150 grams of methyl naphthaleneacetate at a concentration of 98% in 300 grams of acetone or alcohol, mix it into 10 to 12.5 kg of fine soil, and spread it evenly over the potato tubers. After the potatoes are piled loose or packed into boxes, cover them with a layer of newspaper or burlap.
2. Sprout inhibitor treatment method: 7 days before harvest, spray the plants with 0.25% maleic hydrazide; if rain occurs within 24 hours, spray once more. After this treatment, store them using conventional methods.
3. Spice preservation method: Spices such as almonds, cinnamon, cumin, peppermint oil and thyme can make food more delicious, and the latest experimental results show that they can also keep potatoes fresh.
4. Jasmine essence storage method: Methyl jasmonate, which gives jasmine its unique fresh fragrance, can be used to prevent potatoes from sprouting during winter storage. It also has an advantage: it does not hinder the healing of wounds on potatoes injured at harvest, and it does not leave any odor.
