Detailed Explanation of Summer Pig Fattening Techniques

For many farmers, summer is the most troublesome and irritating season, because in summer pigs often lose condition, lack energy and fail to gain meat due to excessively high temperatures, and this situation seriously affects the pigs' production performance. If you have mastered summer pig fattening techniques, then you need not worry about pig farming profits being affected by high-temperature weather. Below is a detailed introduction to summer pig fattening techniques.

1. Build a shed for shade

Most rural pig houses are open-style pig houses. Before high temperatures arrive, a temporary shade shed should be built in front of the house to block direct sunlight. A shed can also be built around the house, or vines such as grapes and pumpkins can be planted to let their vines cover the shade shed.

2. Adjust the diet structure

In midsummer, the energy feed in the diet should be relatively reduced, and green feed can be increased. Normally, energy feed accounts for 50-70% of the diet; in summer it is 40-50%. Green feed should be increased from 0.5-1 kg to 1-1.5 kg. All feed fed should be fresh, hygienic and free of mildew.

3. Feed pigs at night

Feeding can be carried out at 7 pm, 11 pm and 4 am, for 3 feedings each night. During the day, at 10 am and 2 pm, feed 0.5% salt water and green, juicy feed once each time. As long as feeding is reasonable and needs are met, a pig of about 50 kg can still achieve a daily weight gain of 0.5-0.75 kg.

4. Supply sufficient clean drinking water

Water is the best solvent and transport medium for various nutrients, and the removal of waste from the body is also carried out through water. Water makes up 1/3-1/2 of a pig's body weight. In summer, a pig's daily drinking water intake is 23.8% of its own body weight. It can drink 0.5% salt water to regulate body temperature.
