The city is great in every way, so why do so many people yearn for rural life?

A while ago I read an article, roughly about whether it is better to live in the countryside or more comfortable to live in the city, and looking at the comments below the article, most people said they would rather live in the countryside. Seeing this, it is hard not to ponder: why, with the city developed as it is today, do so many people still yearn for the countryside? Logically, city life is convenient and materially rich, a place people always want to settle in for the long term, but the reality is that many people want to escape the city. In fact, those who want to leave fall into just a few categories.

The first group: most of those who want to leave the city are migrant workers. Although they struggle in the city for a long time, their limited abilities mean they never settle down and make a home there. With no home, they psychologically regard themselves as complete outsiders, like uninvited guests, and the pressure this creates in their minds is enormous. Add to that the fact that life in the city is hard to begin with, unhappiness at work and limited pay, and people want to escape at any moment.

The second group: successful people who have achieved career success and complete financial freedom. Material abundance is long since no longer what they pursue; what they think about more is spiritual relaxation. Yearning for rural life is about wanting to experience a completely different way of living. It is not that they lack ability that they do not want to stay in the city, but that, having seen through all the superficial glitter, they want to go to the countryside and get close to nature.

The third group: people who can live well whether in the city or in the countryside. The reason they choose the countryside is that they are naturally close to nature and love a slow-paced life, able to be woken every day by birdsong instead of a phone alarm, coming home after finishing farm work at sunset, finding plain tea and simple food a pure enjoyment.

In fact, whether in the city or in the countryside, each has its own advantages; it is just that what people pursue is different, or that often they have no choice. No matter where you live, as long as your loved ones are by your side and the home is warm, the heart is at ease.
