Meat, egg and poultry price trend analysis

Piglets

This Monday, the average origin price of meat, eggs and poultry on Yimutian was 10.28 yuan/jin, up 5.7% from last week. The peak occurred in the latter part of the week.

Origin piglet prices continued to rise. The lowest price during the week was 12.14 yuan/jin, the highest was 12.76 yuan/jin, and the weekly average was 12.6 yuan/jin, up 6.5% from last week. Prices for 10-20 jin and 20-30 jin piglets rose more noticeably.

On the market side, pork prices began to decline this week, and pork consumption has entered the off-season, but current hog farming profits remain relatively high, and farmers' surging enthusiasm for restocking continues to push up origin piglet prices.

Eggs

Egg prices were generally stable this week, with a weekly average of 3.66 yuan/jin, flat compared with last week. The lowest price during the week was 3.64 yuan/jin, and the highest was 3.71 yuan/jin, with the peak occurring in the latter part of the week.

On the market side, egg prices rose first and then fell this week, forming a parabolic shape. The boost from the Dragon Boat Festival faded, and market traders focused on shipping goods, with low purchasing enthusiasm. On the origin side, because the price increase occurred earlier than in the market, origin prices had basically completed their correction last week, and prices were stable this week.

Vegetable origin price trends this week

Vegetable origin prices rose slightly in the early part of the week, driven by some products, but still maintained a downward trend later on.

The weekly average was 1.23 yuan/jin, up 2.5% from last week. The lowest price during the week was 1.2 yuan/jin, and the highest was 1.26 yuan/jin, with the peak occurring in the early part of the week.

The most obvious price fluctuations this week were in garlic sprouts, zucchini, fresh chili peppers, garlic and scallions.

Zucchini

At present, origin supplies of zucchini are in a transition stage between old and new crops, supplies are relatively tight, and prices have begun to rise. Late-season goods are of poorer quality, with prices generally below 0.2 yuan/jin, while new goods are relatively more expensive, at above 0.4 yuan/jin.

Scallions

This week, scallions from multiple production areas in Hebei and Shandong reached the conditions for bulk market arrival. In addition, scallion prices had been running at a high level for nearly a year, leading to a relatively large planted area of scallions in northern production areas this season, and prices began to decline. Southern production areas were affected by northern production areas, and prices also fell steadily. Starting next week, southern supplies will basically no longer move north.

Scallions from Weifang in Shandong, Liangshan in Sichuan and Gaocheng in Hebei all triggered anxiety among growers because of relatively large price declines, and their selling mentality was slightly anxious.

Chili peppers

Origin fresh chili peppers have entered the peak production period, supplies from various production areas are relatively abundant, and in addition, high temperatures make it more difficult to keep chili peppers fresh, so prices will continue to fall.

Garlic sprouts

This week, garlic sprout prices in Jinxiang, Shandong declined, with relatively small trading volumes. Cheap prices for other summer vegetables suppressed garlic sprout prices to a certain extent. Garlic sprout prices in Hubei were relatively stable.

Garlic

Encouraged by last season's garlic market, fresh garlic prices have continued to rise since coming to market this season. In addition, the dryness of fresh garlic is gradually increasing, which has also pushed prices up. At present, garlic farmers are relatively firm in their asking prices, and buyers' purchase volumes have decreased slightly from earlier, with cautious sentiment rising.

As temperatures rise, origin fruit supplies are abundant, creating substitution effects among them, and prices continue to fall. There is still room for prices to decline further later on.

The most obvious fruit price fluctuations this week were in cherries, mangoes, grapes, peaches and nectarines.
