He isn't worried when watermelons don't sell well: a man from Dali County sells 150 tons every day at the end of May

Pan Qianglong is from Xizhai Town, Dali County, Weinan City, Shaanxi Province. His hometown lies in the Guanzhong Plain area, where all kinds of crops are grown on a wide scale and yields are high too, but they just can't fetch a good price. Every year his hometown runs into the problem of fruit not selling well. Pan Qianglong saw it and kept it in mind, and in recent years he has been thinking about how to promote his hometown's agricultural products to the outside world.

A few years ago, after graduating from a vocational college, Pan Qianglong went to work for a highway supervision engineering unit in Zhejiang Province. In his spare time he often visited the fruit wholesale markets in Zhejiang and Jiangsu, checking market conditions and learning the market. His initial idea was to sell his hometown's Dali winter jujubes. While promoting Dali winter jujubes, he got to know several wholesalers and brought buyers back to his hometown to make purchases. The praise and expectations of his fellow villagers gave him the idea of returning home to start a business and help more people sell more of their hometown's agricultural products.

At the very start of his business, Pan Qianglong felt how hard it was. He not only had to keep thinking about how to help farmers raise yields and quality, but also had to consider how to let buyers make money, trying every possible way to serve them well so as to keep his limited customers.

In 2014, while chatting with Pan Qianglong, a buyer recommended the "Yimutian" app to him. After downloading it, he posted supply information for agricultural products such as Dali winter jujubes, watermelons and grapes, and unexpectedly, on the very first day more than a dozen buyers called to ask about them. The results were far better than he had imagined. Two years passed, and through the Yimutian platform Pan Qianglong built up more and more purchasing resources. His annual trading volume of fruit and vegetables grew from more than 1,000 tons to more than 5,000 tons, helping local people solve the long-troubling problem of selling their agricultural products, and he became a somewhat well-known figure locally.

In 2015 the national watermelon market was sluggish, while the local watermelon planting area exceeded one million mu, and many farmers again faced the predicament of being unable to sell their crops. Pan Qianglong kept searching Yimutian for buyers with demand, and by the end of May his daily watermelon shipments were all between 150 and 200 tons, once again showing the enormous power of the internet and making him more and more famous.

In May 2016, an Agriculture, Forestry and Satellite TV program did a special interview report on Pan Qianglong. As his "fame" grew, he felt an even heavier responsibility. Today, he has developed his original "Qianglong Fruit Shop" into "Shaanxi Tianliren Trading Co., Ltd.", preparing to build a one-stop service industry chain for agricultural product planting and sales. He believes that in the internet environment, as long as he is not afraid of hardship and has the spirit to innovate and explore, he is confident he can keep going along the road of agricultural entrepreneurship.
