Baise mangoes are about to hit the market, with the government's full support, their fruity fragrance will spread across the world

Based on the 2016 climate characteristics of Baise and the level of orchard management, as well as tests on the physicochemical properties of mangoes by relevant experts, the Baise Municipal People's Government recently issued a notice to implement a mango harvest-to-market date system throughout the city. The harvest-to-market dates for Baise mangoes are as follows: the first batch of Tainong No. 1 mango and Hongjinhuang mango on June 20; Guifei mango on June 25; Xin Shiji mango on July 1; Jinhuang mango on July 15; Hongxiangya mango on July 20; Renong No. 1 mango on July 20; Guire mango No. 82 and Yuwen mango on July 26; Hongmang No. 6 on August 8; Guire mango No. 10 on August 15; Kate mango on August 15.

The Baise mango harvest-to-market date system was already promoted and used in 2015, with the aim of preventing fruit growers and dealers from picking and selling mangoes that are only 60 percent or even 50 percent ripe, so as to ensure the maturity of mangoes when they reach the market and to protect the quality and brand image of Baise mangoes.

Baise is the largest mango production base in the country, with a planting area of more than 900,000 mu, including 494,600 mu of Tainong No. 1 mango, 99,500 mu of Jinhuang mango, 43,400 mu of Hongxiangya mango, 93,900 mu of Guire mango No. 82 (Guiqi mango), 37,700 mu of Guifei mango, 90,300 mu of Guire mango No. 10, 5,800 mu of Kate mango, 6,500 mu of Xin Shiji mango, and so on.

In recent years, the output, sales prices and economic benefits of mangoes in Baise have continued to rise. According to statistics, in 2015 the city's mango industry achieved a total output value of 2.417 billion yuan, involving 81,100 households and 290,300 people, with an average mango income of 29,800 yuan per household, an increase of 20.99 percent in average mango income per household, and a per capita net income from mangoes of 4,162 yuan; for the whole city, mangoes contributed 351 yuan to the per capita net income of farmers, up 38.74 percent from 253 yuan in 2014, accounting for 49.79 percent of the city's per capita net income from fruit of 705 yuan, and 5.18 percent of the city's per capita annual net income of farmers of 6,770 yuan. The mango industry has gradually become the leading industry for Baise farmers to increase their income and become prosperous.

In order to enable Baise mangoes to obtain good sales prices and development prospects, enhance market competitiveness and market share, secure a place in the future mango market, Baise gives full play to the government's functions of guidance, direction, service and management. To intensify brand promotion and marketing of Baise mangoes, it holds events such as the China-ASEAN (Baise) Modern Agriculture Exhibition and Trade Fair, the mango harvest-to-market ceremony, the Baise Mango Promotion Fair, and the Tiandong Mango Culture Month. To advance the mango industry toward industrialization, scaling up and intensification, it actively guides and organizes farmers to establish mango professional associations and mango professional cooperative economic organizations, vigorously cultivates 10,000 farmer brokers, and implements the "company + base + farmer" model; to further expand the marketing channels for Baise mangoes, it carries out a series of online promotional activities: the Taobao and JD.com Baise Mango Festival launch ceremony, the Taobao Baise Mango Festival, the JD.com Baise Mango Festival, and Baise mango online sales promotions; to provide reliable technical support, it establishes a municipal-level mango industry research institution to strengthen the development of new technologies such as breeding of new varieties, cultivation, post-harvest commercial handling, fresh-keeping storage and transportation, and processing.

Baise mangoes have their own advantages, belonging to a mid-season production area, with a market period after Hainan mangoes finish and before Sichuan and Yunnan mangoes come on the market. Located in the river valley area of Youjiang District in Baise, with a unique climate, it is very suitable for mango growth, and the mangoes produced have a beautiful appearance, little fiber, abundant juice, tender flesh, a rich fragrance, top quality and are resistant to storage and transportation.

In order to ensure the fruit quality and quality safety of Baise mangoes, the Baise government maintains and strengthens them through four aspects:

1. Strengthen the formulation of standardized technical regulations. At present, our city has formulated, issued and implemented two local standards, "Pollution-free Food - Mango Cultivation Technical Regulations" and "Pollution-free Food - Tainong No. 1 Mango Production Technical Regulations", and has promoted and applied them throughout the city.

2. Strengthen training and education to raise the ideological awareness of fruit growers. Strictly in accordance with existing pollution-free standardized production technical regulations, and in combination with local actual conditions, organize production, vigorously promote and apply advanced technologies such as soil testing and formulated fertilization, fruit bagging, scientific pruning, and integrated pest and disease control, promote the use of high-efficiency, low-toxicity and low-residue pesticides, eliminate the use of highly toxic and high-residue pesticides and harmful chemical fertilizers, and ensure high yield, high quality and safety of fruit.

3. Strengthen the quality and safety testing of mango products. Baise conducts multiple batches of pesticide residue testing on mangoes in the city's main mango production areas every year, with a pass rate of 100 percent, and for more than ten years Baise mangoes have had no quality and safety complaints or product quality and safety problems.

4. Fourth, implement the Baise mango harvest-to-market date system. In order to change the problem that Baise mangoes are harvested and marketed early every year before the mature season, affecting the quality and brand image of Baise mangoes, since 2015 we have implemented the Baise mango harvest-to-market date system throughout the city, issuing a notice in the name of the Municipal People's Government, extensively publicizing it to mango production and operation entities, and strengthening supervision before mangoes are marketed, to eliminate the occurrence of immature mangoes being marketed early and ensure the maturity and quality of the fruit when it reaches the market.

Right now Baise mangoes are about to hit the market, and as the fragrance of mangoes spreads across the world, fruit growers will embark on a road to prosperity through mangoes.
